Remakes are a staple of the video game industry. We are constantly seeing reboots, reimaginings, and remakes of our favorite titles of yore.Nintendois a company that is not afraid to pad out their yearly lineups with remakes or rereleases. Today, we’ll be taking a look at five games that really do need a remake, along with five titles that we think would be fine without one. Let’s get into it.
10Need: The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Skyward Swordis one of the most polarizing games inZeldahistory. Despite what you may think of the linear adventure title, a remake kind of needs to happen for this game. And, for that matter, a lot of Wii games. While the Wii was a groundbreaking and inventive system, its playstyle makes it impossible for most games to just be dragged and dropped onto newer systems. WithSkyward Sword’semphasis on motion controls, it needs a full remake in order to be enjoyed on new systems.
9Left Alone: Wii Sports And Resort
Wii SportsandWii Sports Resortare absolute slappers, no one will argue that fact. However, they are also very much so products of their time. The two titles were specifically made to showcase the Wii and what it was capable of with motion controls. Bringing these games onto newer systems, especially with a lack of motion controls, wouldn’t feel right.Wii SportsandResortare better left as fond memories. Bring Wuhu Island back, though. That place was great.
8Need: Super Mario Galaxy 1+2
The final Wii title on this list is another dual entry, this time forSuper Mario Galaxy 1and2.TheGalaxygames are great, and are easily some of the most inventiveMarioplatformers that have ever been bestowed upon us. However, just like the other Wii titles mentioned, motion controls.

TheGalaxygames are a lot lighter on motion controls thanWii SportsandSkyward Sword, but the games would still require some retooling to get going on new systems. Still, getting to see these games make an epic return would be nothing short of incredible.
7Left Alone: Super Mario World
The pixel art wonder that isSuper Mario Worldneeds to stay as it is. A pixel art wondering. UpdatingSuper Mario Worldto have an art style akin to something like theNewseries would be interesting, sure, but that doesn’t mean that it should happen. It wouldn’t feel right to see this classic play in anything other than it’s SNES form. Even the GBA art doesn’t feel as nice as the original. We can keep rereleasing this game to modern systems, but let’s not remake it.
6Need: Super Mario Land 1 + 2
Super Mario Landand its sequels are some weirdMariogames released for the original Game Boy that no one seems to talk about. They’re completely black and white, feature weird bunny powerups, and are completely trapped on very old hardware. In order to make any sort of remake worth a purchase, bothMario Landgames would need to be packaged together with a $30 or less price point. As the games are pretty short, some new content would be highly appreciated. No one is really clamoring for a remake ofMario Land 1and2, but it would still be nice to see at some point.
5Left Alone: Super Smash Bros. Melee
Remember that weird moment when people wanted a remake ofSuper Smash Bros. Melee? Why did anybody want that? That makes absolutely no sense.Super Smash Bros. Ultimatehas pretty much everything that you could ever want out of aSmash Bros.game. Why would you want to go back, gut way over half the roster, and discard all of the new gameplay modes? What is the reason? For some old fighting mechanics and a fun Adventure mode? It isn’t worth it. Just bust out a GameCube or Wii and play the game in its original form.
4Need: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Dooris often considered the high point of its series. Its timeless art style and fantastic writing pair with fantastic gameplay elements to form a terrific RPG. Whether you’re in a twilight town that sees its inhabitants being turned into pigs or fighting it out to become the top wrestler of the major league,The Thousand-YearDoornever fails to entertain players.

Considering how… badPaper Mariohas become over the past few entries, a remake ofThe Thousand-Year Doorfollowed by a brand new return to form would be absolutely great.
3Left Alone: The EarthBound Series
This one is kind of weird. Fans just wantMother 3, and Nintendo just wants fans to not haveMother 3, so there’s some conflict there. A remake ofEarthBoundandEarthBound Beginningswould probably just irritate fans more than it would make them happy. A three-pack remake includingMother 3might make things okay, but fans would likely rather have it in its original form than a remake. At this point though, they’ll probably just take what they can get. Either way, just put outMother 3Nintendo. Literally, what is stopping you?
2Need: Pokémon Snap
A new entry into the series would be preferred, but a remake ofPokémon Snapwould be super exciting to see announced. This one-offPokémontitle sees players traveling around and taking pictures of Pokémon in their natural environments. It was an interesting take on the series that would still do great in today’s market. While this could have been a perfect Wii U game, a Switch remake would make fans of the N64 original incredibly happy.
1Left Alone: Super Mario 64
Super Mario 64is oversaturated at this point. It’s everywhere. YouTubers are beating it without touching any controllers or using any parts of their body, the game is still talked about basically any time video games are mentioned. A remaster of the DS remake could be fun to see on modern consoles, but a full remake ofSuper Mario 64shouldn’t even be considered until many otherMariogames are remade.
