Summary

2024 is shaping up to be an exciting year forOverwatch 2. Not only are more PvE story missions expected at some point, but a new game mode called Clash will deliver a fresh take on Hanamura and the competitive ranking system will finally get the makeover it has desperately needed. Fans know of two new heroes that will come to the game in 2024, those being the mining-focusedDamage character Ventureand the flight-focused Support codenamed Space Ranger. Beyond all of that, players are also aware of some exciting battle pass themes.

DuringOverwatch 2’s big segment at BlizzCon 2023, director Aaron Keller teased a few of the seasonal themes that fans can expect to see throughout next year. Players will be seeing anOW2battle pass based on Egyptian Mythology, which should be a nice parallel to the Greek Mythology theme of Season 2. Additionally, a Mirror Universe concept has fans excited, as they will get to witness good heroes becoming bad and vice versa. However, fans of scary skins will also be in for a treat thanks to the Eldritch Horror theme, which would make sense for a potential Halloween battle pass. As for who could get skins within it, a few characters come to mind.

Ramattra

Though fans are not happy about some of the changes made toZenyatta’s Cultist skin inOverwatch 2, the squid-headed Omnic look remains one of the most popular designs the monk has ever received. As such, giving a similar skin to the hero he calls brother seems like a guaranteed hit for Blizzard. Not only would matching skins for this pair of heroes be adorable, but Ramattra’s Nemesis form gives him the advantage of becoming a more disturbing Eldritch monster as soon as he gets bigger.

Moira

TheOverwatch 2Support hero Moira is no stranger to creepy skins, with her Banshee look being a popular Halloween Terror addition that is worn by many players outside the spooky season because of how good it looks. Her cruel personality makes her a good fit for any creature that is meant to be monstrous, as does her unique movement style, teleportation, and primary fire. Turning Moira into a lich seems like a great idea, as she could boast a skeletal face while having tentacles all around her body.

Wrecking Ball

Though the cuteWrecking Ballstands out from the villainous heroes many would naturally look to for Eldritch Horror skins, his mech could do a lot of the heavy lifting. While Hammond himself will probably still look cute even if he is made to resemble Cthulhu, his mech could become a gigantic unsettling eye. Additionally, instead of the witty dialogue it usually spouts, the Wrecking Ball mech could speak in an unintelligible alien language, similar to Bastion’s beeps but far more unsettling.

In general, Tanks will be a good fit for Eldritch Horror skins because of their stature. Their movement should also be taken into consideration, as it is easy to imagine a squid-faced Sigma floating toward players like theShadow Man fromCall of DutyZombies, while an otherworldly Winston leaping at players would surely be scary.

Roadhog

FollowingOverwatch 2’s Roadhog rework, the character has started to appear in a lot more matches again, meaning the skin output for Junkrat’s bodyguard should also be increased. While aMythic Roadhog skinwould be fun, so too would a Legendary in the Eldritch Horror battle pass, as Blizzard could have some fun with the designs for his “Pig Pen” and “Take a Breather” abilities. Plus, hooking enemy players with a tendril seems like it would make for a neat visual.

Reaper

It would be a surprise if Blizzard decided to leaveOverwatch 2’s edgiest heroout of the fun with the game’s Eldritch Horror battle pass. His mask could be replaced with a new one resembling Azathoth, while his Shadow Step could be given a visual touch-up to create a portal of teeth around his feet. His shotguns could be the star of the show, as Blizzard could do a number of things with his signature weapons to make them match the aesthetic of the skin.
