For a studio previously best known forDisney Infinity,Toy Story 3, and theCarsgames, Avalanche Software did a surprisingly great job withHogwarts Legacy. With a nostalgia-filled open-world, some beautiful visuals, fluid and weighty combat, and plenty of side content to enjoy,Hogwarts Legacyis rightfully deserving of its critical praise, but it’s far from being a perfect game.
WhileHogwarts Legacywas packed full of content, a lot of it wasn’t quite what fans were hoping to experience in the first fully-fledgedopen-worldHarry PotterRPG. Some fans wanted the whole Hogwarts school experience, from start to finish, and thoughHogwarts Legacygave them a few classes and iconic beats like purchasing a wand for the first time, there were still a few big moments left out, and one missing feature in particular could have made for a great Room of Requirement accessory.

Pets Would Have Made a Great Addition to Hogwarts Legacy’s Room of Requirement
After arriving at the titularSchool of Witchcraft and Wizardryand attending a few classes,Hogwarts Legacygives players a quest that unlocks the iconic Room of Requirement, an area of Hogwarts Castle that’s said to appear to those who need it, and is capable of changing its layout to fit whatever those needs are. ForHogwarts Legacy’s main protagonist, the Room of Requirement becomes a glorified potions lab, greenhouse, and vivarium, with each one coming with a plethora of different customization options.
After completing the initial Room of Requirement quest, players will have access to three new spells. These spells let the player conjure new objects into the Room of Requirement such as lab stations, plant pots, and a ton of cosmetic items such as paintings, wall ornaments, and rugs, among many others. Players will unlock more cosmetic furnishings for the Room of Requirement by completing side quests and exploringHogwarts Legacy’s open-world. By talking to Deek - a house-elf assigned byHogwarts Legacy’s Professor Weasleyto take care of the room in the player’s absence - players can change the overall aesthetic of the Room of the Requirement, along with changing the type of lighting in the room.
While players will spend the first few hours ofHogwarts Legacy’s runtime crafting potions in the Room of Requirement, the location soon reveals its true primary purpose. Players are given the ability to rescue and capture magical creatures from the poachers surrounding Hogwarts Castle. Once rescued, players can bring them back tothe Room of Requirement, where they can be stored in the room’s magical vivariums. Players can find another slew of customization options here, with both practical and cosmetic objects being placeable in each vivarium. On the whole, the Room of Requirement offers plenty of customization options, but there’s always room for improvement.
One excellent addition toHogwarts Legacy’s Room of Requirement would be a personal pet for the player. A vital stage of the Hogwarts student-life process, all first years are encouraged to bring a personal pet to the school. WithHogwarts Legacy’s protagonistnot attending until fifth year, the player never gets to choose a pet for themselves. It would have been great to see the inclusion of a pet inHogwarts Legacy, with players potentially being able to take them on adventures outside of the school, and bring them back to the Room of Requirement.
This could have opened up a whole new avenue for customization, such as owl posts or cat beds or adorable little makeshift houses for a tiny frog or toad.Hogwarts Legacyalready has plenty of cozy game elements, but this would have just pushed it over the edge in the best way.
Hogwarts Legacyis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Switch release scheduled for June 12, 2025.
