The Arc Suggested By AI
Oda tried his hands at perhaps the most popular AI chat software on the internet currently, ChatGPT. A video shared by the officialOne Piecestaff Twitter handle showed Oda asking the AI to help him come up with an interesting and funny plot for thenew chapter of theOne Piecemanga. To this request by Oda, the AI replied with a potential plot for the nextOne Piecechapter where a new antagonist called ‘King of Shadows’ comes to the forefront and is pitted against Nico Robin. This new villain stays true to their name since they can control and alter shadows possibly because they possess the power of a Devil Fruit.
The part that makes this storyline suggested by ChatGPT even more interesting is that the King of Shadows or the Shadow King kidnaps the doctor and one of the most loved members of the Straw Hat Pirates, Tony Tony Chopper. Afterward,Nico Robin searches for the Shadow Tribeor People of Shadows that she has met in the past to form a strategy to defeat the King of Shadows, and the entire crew heads to the Shadow Island in the east blue. The King of Shadows gets eventually defeated by the captain of Straw Hat Pirates, Monkey D. Luffy, and the Shadow Tribe regains the power that they had lost to the King of Shadows previously. The entire crew leaves Shadow Island except for Robin who stays behind to study more about the People of Shadows and rejoins the crew later.
Oda told ChatGPT that this storyline was boring and asked it to suggest some more interesting ideas. Then, ChatGPT came up with a different storyline in which a few aliens board and hide in a ship, they are hiding from an evil spaceship that destroyed their planet. Thealiens seek the help of the captainand the crew on whose ship the former were hiding, and all of them start searching for the evil spaceship. Eventually, they land on an island that is home to an evil witch who is after the piece of the star that the aliens have. The aliens can’t lose the star pieces as they are necessary for the restoration of their planet. Afterward, the captain, crew, and aliens join hands to defeat the evil witch and focus on tracking down the spaceship that they were initially after. In the end, they track down and defeat the spaceship and the captain with their crew helps the aliens in rebuilding the planet of the latter. ChatGPT suggested this storyline because it has a fresh andunique set of themes and charactersin it which would be something new for the readers of the manga to see in the world ofOne Piece. Oda thanked the AI for this suggestion.
This Is Not the First Time
This is certainly not the first timethat the author ofOne Piece, Eiichiro Oda, has used ChatGPT. He has used it on multiple occasions previously, for instance, last December he asked the AI to draw the CP0 agent Rob Lucci. Oda found the process funny as the AI turned the dangerous and intimidating Rob Lucci into a small girl. He even drew Luffy’s reaction to the AI’s version of Rob Lucci and uploaded it as a video on the official YouTube channel ofOne Piece. The advancement in AI technology is having and will have a big impact on different art-based professions including manga authors,only time will tellhow this development turns out in the future.
