FromSoftware’s latest Soulslike title, the open-worldElden Ring, has been warmly received by fans and critics alike. The game boasts an incredibly active player base that is hard at work creating new combat strategies, uncovering hidden secrets, and sharing memes. Now, oneElden Ringfan has fused one of the game’s many memorable monsters with the Pokemon Tyrunt and Tyrantrum.

This isn’t the first timeElden Ringfans have createdPokemon-themed fan art, but it may be one of the funniest. Many of the jokes in theElden Ringfandom at the moment come back to a single gag known as the dog meme. This meme involves players joking that enemies, NPCs, and even items that are clearly not canine in nature are, in fact, dogs.

Twitter user bromojumbo got in on the action by sharing fan art of Tyrunt and Tyrantrum, two well-knownFossil Pokemon based on the famous Tyrannosaurus Rex, with anElden Ringtwist. Tyrunt and Tyrantrum are usually depicted as scaly reptilian creatures with bright orange crests and ruffs of feathers. This redesign gives them coats of brown and reddish fur respectively, a distinctly canine appearance, and the hollow white-on-black eyes of some ofElden Ring’s most terrifying enemies.

Bromojumbo’s attempt to combine adorable Pokemon with thiscreepyElden Ringenemyresults in two creatures that straddle the line between cool and creepy. Their take on Tyrunt is a dark grey-brown dinosaur covered in tufts of fur, standing in the typical stance of a Tyrunt with its tongue hanging out like a dog. Their Tyrantrum features a more dog-like head, canine ears instead of a crest, and reddened scars instead of a scale pattern. It’s also wearing a black spiked collar, which appears to be a stylistic choice to make it look more like a dog. Both designs feature black dog noses and gray fur accents.

One of the reasonsElden Ring’s dog memehas taken off so much might be the bizarre creativity of the game’s dog enemies. Among the most disturbing of these canine foes is a creature that has been called the Giant Bipedal Dog or T-Rex Dog. These twisted creatures take the form of massive dogs that have been twisted and stretched into giants with disproportionate limbs. As the names would suggest, they stand on two legs and attack by swinging their massive paws at the player and biting. The result looks like something straight out ofJurassic Park, albeit with more fur. This would explain why bromojumbo thought Tyrunt and Tyrantrum would be good fusion material.

Elden Ringis available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
