Even back when the nextAssassin’s Creedwas onlyrumored to feature Vikings and a Nordic setting, fans had their wish list of historical figures and storylines that they hoped the game would follow. From the Battle of Reading to the Siege of Dumbarton, there are a lot of different places thatAssassin’s Creed Valhalla(as fans now know the title) can go, but Ubisoft hasn’t tipped its hand regarding much of the story.

However, a listing for theAssassin’s Creed Valhallaoffers one detail about a story mission that’s included with the Season Pass. Apparently, players will partake in a story mission called “The Legend of Beowulf” if they purchase the season pass for the game.

Roughly translated, the listing for the mission says that players will be discovering the “cruel truth behind the legend,” which suggests that players will be living out the events that supposedly inspired the classic poem. It could even suggest that thecharacter of Eivorserved as the inspiration for Beowulf, which would be a suitablyAssassin’s Creedtwist.

Back when the Viking theme was only a rumor forAssassin’s Creed, some predicted that the story might have some tie ins with Beowulf, and it appears they were correct. How The Legend of Beowulf mission will play out is unclear, but it’s possible that it could have players recreating some of the events from the old English poem. In it, Beowulf defeats Grendel and then his mother before becoming king of the Geats (modern day Swedes).

Since the very beginning, theAssassin’s Creedgames have tried to incorporate historical events and figures in order to put a fun twist on their storylines.Leonardo Da Vinci designing gadgets for Eziois probably the best example ofACmelding with history, but almost all of the games have some flavor of that.

But in the more recentAssassin’s Creedgames, the storylines have also incorporated myths and legends into their missions to give players something otherworldly to experience. InAssassin’s Creed Odyssey, for example, players took onmythical beasts like the Medusaand the Minotaur. So, if Assassin’s Creed Valhalla were to bring the story of Beowulf to life – even though it isn’t an actual piece of history – would offer a similarly fun twist for players.

That being said, it appears The Legend of Beowulf will only be available as DLC. Most likely it will be similar to the Jack the Ripper storyline that was inAssassin’s Creed Syndicate.

Assassin’s Creed Valhallareleases later this year for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
