Baldur’s Gate 3is slowly but certainly making its way to coming out of Early Access. The latest content update - Patch #7 - has just come out, and its highlight feature is the introduction of the fan-favorite Barbarian class to the character creation system.

Patch #7 also adds a number of much-needed tweaks and fixes toBaldur’s Gate 3, such as a comprehensive overhaul of the in-game HUD, including the new ability hotbar, new Character Sheet and Party Panel interfaces, heaps of quality-of-life changes, and more. Potentially the most exciting new feature, however, is the ability to use improvised weapons.

Though there’s much discussion on the matter ofclasses that should be inBaldur’s Gate 3, Barbarians are the pinnacle of this particular update. Specifically, Larian has added Berserker Barbarians for players that want to create a straight-up brutalist warrior, as well as the totem-focused Wildheart Barbarians, who can take on abilities from a wolf, tiger, bear, eagle, or an elk. Depending on a player’s preference, they can spec out their Berserker however they desire, with unique visual customization options opening up as they go.

Other Update #7 highlights include the aforementioned improvised weaponry. Characters can now pick up and use furniture, animals, limbs, and even certain NPCs as improvised weaponry, should they choose to do so. Though improvised armaments are unlikely to be on the top of the list ofadvanced combat mechanics inBaldur’s Gate 3, this feature is bolstered further with the addition of dedicated thrown weapons, too, such as knives, javelins, and the like.

The only real downside to the Patch #7 announcement is the fact thatBaldur’s Gate 3won’t come out in 2022, either. The early expectations were that the game might wrap up its Early Access stint before the end of 2021, but the development seems to have ballooned since, with much work required before Larian could put its foot down with a specific release window. To that end, players who are waiting for the game’s full release have got a long wait ahead of them.

Overall, the game’s community seems to agree thatEarly Access was good forBaldur’s Gate 3. Though there’s still a long road ahead for Larian, the game is progressing nicely, and should launch sometime in 2023, according to the latest information. In the meantime, players can look forward to plenty of class-based exploration and gameplay tweaks coming as part of future patches, if nothing else.

Baldur’s Gate 3is available via Early Access on Steam, with the full release date seemingly pushed back to 2023.
