Today Smith dropped a big hint on Twitter. “Keep them eyes and ears on @thegameawards tonight! Got a little somethin' we’re cookin' up for ya…” is the message that Smith posted, along with a link to a stream for The Game Awards 2019. Smith posted no overt reference to what game might be shown, which should keep the speculation going up and through the event. It’s just enough to give fans of theBatmanfranchisehope, though.
Given Smith’s robust experience with voice acting makes this a potential red herring, it must be repeated. While most video game fans are likely thinking aboutBatmanandBatmanonly, any of Smith’s other roles could potentially be what he’s referring to. Sega may be announcing anewSonic the Hedgehoggameat the show, for instance. Or, like other rumors have insinuated, a newCrash Team Racinggame could be announced. Smith voices one of the racers, after all.
Before anyone goes and says that aBatmangame announcement is still a certainty, it’s important to recall something that The Game Awards producer and host Geoff Keighley has said. Keighley has said repeatedly, up until the past several days, that none of The Game Awards 2019’s game announcements have leaked yet. With that in mind, WB Games Montreal’sBatmangame has been one of themost rumored and speculated upon announcements of The Game Awards 2019. Going by Keighley’s words, that means it’s not planned to be announced. To be fair, Keighley may not be trustworthy in that regard, either.
