Every hero has a villain. These foes challenge the protagonist both physically and mentally, often getting under their skin and pushing them to their limits. Great villains also have something else in common: they’re bald.

By some strange coincidence, many foes in popular media do not have hair on their heads. Maybe it just fell off. Possibly they decided to shave. Perhaps they have a hair-growing deficiency. For whatever reason, these adversaries do not need hair to leave their foils in a tangled mess. Here are some foes from popular media that boast a menacing dome.

6Nero Needs No Introduction

“Hi Christopher, I’m Nero,” says this Romulan to Captain Pike of the Enterprise in J.J. Abrams’Star Trekmovie. In another timeline that branches off from that ofthe main lore, Nero finds himself sucked into a wormhole that destroyed his home planet of Romulus, and destroys the ship captained by the father of future captain, James T. Kirk.

Nero and his crewshave their headsandtattoo them enoughto make Mike Tyson proud. This decision came about as a result of the destruction of Nero’s home world of Romulus, believing the federation to be responsible, even though Spock in his timeline tried to save it. Nero spends much of the movie seeking revenge against the Vulcan.

5Vader’s Helmet Hides A Pale Head

Darth Vader of theStar Warsfranchise is one of the mosticonic and powerfulvillains in science fiction history. The black bodysuit and helmet create an aura of mystique. His heavy breathing is chilling, and his deep voice is cold, with the slightest hint of malice seeping through.

Vader lost his hair from the injuries he sustained on Mustafar, in his fateful battle with his former mentor and brother, Obi-Wan Kenobi inRevenge of the Sith. When Anakin attempts one final strike at Obi-Wan, who has the high ground, he has his legs chopped off and rolls to the shore of a lava river, which sets him on fire as Obi-Wan leaves him to die.

4Plankton Don’t Grow Hair

Plankton isSpongeBob SquarePants’main antagonistand owner of the Krusty Krab’s non-competitor, The Chum Bucket. His life’s ambition is to obtain the Krabby Patty formula and run his former friend and longtime rival, Mr. Krabs, out of business.

According tothe SpongeBob Wiki, Plankton is a planktonic copepod, meaning he has “oar-feet” and floats along the surface of the ocean waters. His species tend to not grow hair. Instead, he boasts a set of antennae on top of his head, which contribute to his fluctuating height throughout the series.

Supermanhasfaced many roguesover his adventures, but the one enemy that may be most associated with the Man of Steel would be the man of money, Lex Luthor. Superman has long been a thorn in his side, as he would disrupt Luthor’s many less than ethical business ventures.

Ventress is the apprentice of Count Dooku in theStar Warsuniverse. She crosses sabers numerous times with the Jedi, including Anakin Skywalker. She became one of themore interesting charactersin the Star Wars lore, having been betrayed by her master and starting a new life for herself as a bounty hunter. Not only that, but she even helps Obi-Wan take on Darth Maul and his brother Savage.

According to Dave Filoni, her baldness was not a result of her genetics, but rather a deliberate choice. He refers to Ventress having shaved her head as a sign of loyalty to Dooku when discussing theStar WarsnovelDark Discipleby Christie Golden. She would eventually grow her hair out, according to Filoni, due to her distancing herself from her life as a Sith.

The blue blurSonichas gotta go fast, and Dr. Robotnik has to plot world domination. Multiple incarnations of Robotnik have existed throughoutthe franchise’s video games, comics, cartoons, and movies, but he usually comes in the form of a rotund, long-nosed man whose schemes usually include enslaving woodland critters and benevolent aliens.

In his movie incarnation, Robotnik actually starts out life with a full head of hair. After Sonic defeats him and sends him to the mushroom planet, he starts losing his sanity and shaves his head, as well as grows out his glorious mustache.
