Though the originalBorderlandsis certainly a bit dated, the remaster released for the game back in April 2019 brought plenty of solid upgrades and additions. Aside from oozing nostalgia and adding some updated textures to the 2009 classic, theBorderlandsremaster added a golden chest which has been supported by Gearbox for over a year.
Despite most Borderlands players replaying the second game or redeemingGolden Keys inBorderlands 3, Gearbox is still dropping shift codes for the fans that are still exploring the remaster. The code isKJKBJ-HB6BC-KJRTS-J3TJB-WFRKF, and just like with the shift codes in newerBorderlandsgames, it can be redeemed via the shift website or within the main menu ofBorderlands: Game of the Year Edition.

The Golden Chest can be found in Fyrestone, the originalBorderlandslocation. The iconic area’s new Golden Chest sits directly across from Dr. Zed’s shop, with players having easy access to redeem their keys whenever fast traveling to the area. A second chest sits in New Haven, with both chests featuring a handful of exclusive and powerful legendary weapons. For players looking to level up their weapon proficiency on the guns obtained via the chest,a few ofBorderlands’ XP farmsshould come in handy.
The originalBorderlandsgame introduced plenty of the mechanics fans of the series love today. Dueling, trading, a deep loot system, and solid character progression all existed from the start. The Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC that was included in the remaster also provided the first raid boss, Crawmerax the Invincible, and a timed armory looting section that was re-imagined inBorderlands 3’s fourth story expansion.
Even with the age of the firstBorderlands, players have done their best to keep the game fresh and entertaining. Rather than just modding in weapons, a skilled group of players also managed tomod third-person mode into theBorderlandsremaster. While only available to PC players of the game, the addition is still an interesting one that puts a new spin on fighting Eridians and farming legendary weapons within Pandora’s original vault.
While plenty has changed since the originalBorderlands, including Lilith’s evolving appearance, there is still a certain charm that the original game gives off. For players looking to re-experience the classic game that spawned a franchise, or try it for the first time, redeeming some golden keys ahead of time would be a wise idea.
