Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warhas been a victim of numerous leaks, and that streak of bad luck has continued for Activision ahead of the official multiplayer reveal. A new clip ofBlack Ops Cold Warmultiplayer gameplay has leaked online, and within that clip, a brand-new game mode can be seen.
While memorablecharacters like Alex Mason returnto theBlack Ops Cold Warcampaign to make it feel like other entries in the series, the tiny bit of multiplayer footage seen for the game thus far shows that its being taken in a new direction. While the official reveal trailer showed a massive desert map filled with vehicles, this newest clip shows something else entirely.

The clip in question is poor quality, as a YouTuber accidentally streamed some gameplay that they were meant to hold onto until next week’s officialBlack Ops Cold Warmultiplayer reveal. Viewers grabbed the gameplay clip and posted it online immediately, and the half-minute of footage showcases a new 6v6 mode. The gameplay takes place on a city map with open buildings lining the streets and the player is using an assault rifle with iron sights, though it is hard to tell exactly what gun it is.
The mode seems focused on keeping someone alive and getting them to one of two extraction zones, with an announcer shouting in typical Call of Duty fashion that “the VIP is taking fire, keep the package safe.” Whether this is an NPC like in the hostagemodes ofRainbow Six Siegeor an actual player to protect is unclear based on the gameplay. The line about keeping the package safe could imply an item being picked up by a player and needing to be extracted, however.
Based on the HUD, it seems clear that the mode is also one-life and round based. This would not be the first time Treyarch has experimented with one-life, round-based game modes. Aside from the classicCall of Dutymode Search and Destroy,Treyarch also introduced Heist inBlack Ops 4. TheCS:GO-like mode featured players gathering money to buy their loadouts as the rounds progressed while getting items to extraction zones. This new mode seems very much like Heist, but with normal loadouts as opposed to the money system.
Fans will not have to wait much longer to officially see the mode in action or to find out what the assault rifle featured in the clip is called. Answers should finally be givenregarding the leaked specialist weapons, too. With theCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warreveal just around the corner, players will finally be able to learn more about the online modes of the game, including this intriguing new game mode based on VIP extraction.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warwill be available November 13th on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox one. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X upgrades will also be available.
