The Call of Duty League has had to move all of its esports events to an online-only format due to COVID related concerns. This was a move voted on by both staff and players to ensure the safety of everyone who would be participating in these events. With these changes came new technologies and policies that ensure the competitive integrity of these events. Recently, even theCall of Duty League Playoffs were moved online, meaning that the playoffs and championship weekend will all be participated in remotely.
With the new online format that this major event is adopting comes plenty of concerns from competitors and fans alike. However, the CDL has assured that it has taken thorough measures to verify that noplayers will find ways to cheat in the gameduring these events. Now that the event has been moved to an online format fans have been speculating when the event will take place. Well, thanks to a screenshot taking by one quick-thinking Twitter user it seems likely that the Championship weekend will take place during August 29 through the 30.
The leak comes by way of IntelCallofDuty on Twitter who credit Twitter user Nicholasp822 with grabbing the screenshot. The screenshot in question comes from a recent CDL New York stream that went live on July 12. It seems that a small text blurb appeared on stream advertising the CDL Championship with the unannounced date appearing right above it, most likely by accident.Call of Duty: Modern Warfareleaksare a near-constant in the gaming sphere, but seeing an official League unintentionally leak its own event live on stream is something that doesn’t happen all too often.
Regardless, the announcement for the event probably would’ve happened sooner rather than later if these dates are in fact accurate. Call of Duty League has showed no major signs of slowing down during the COVID pandemic, and the same could be said of the esport teams attached to CDL. In fact,Triumph recently signed pro player Censorto the team, as well as well as announcing that it recently became a partnership with the New York Subliners. While the CDL Championship will occur online only, it will surely be an event to look out for.
