Developers at Activision Blizzard have confirmedCall of Duty: Warzone 2.0for release later this year and that the existingWarzoneexperience will remain next to it for the foreseeable future. BecauseCall of Duty:Warzone 2.0will exist simultaneously with the originalWarzone, players will be able to hop in and out of whichever version they see fit.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2leakshave been drip-fed for a while, but the game has been officially confirmed with a reveal trailer detailing aspects of the game, including stealthy campaign missions and potential weapons in the latest arsenal. Not to be left out, the popularCall of Duty: Warzonebattle royale also received big news alongside the announcement asWarzone 2.0has also been confirmed. Unlike its regular changes through the previousCall of Dutyreleases,Call of Duty: Warzonewill be getting a full sequel around the release ofModern Warfare 2.

Activision Blizzard has confirmed thatWarzone 2.0will launch shortly after the release ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2and it will be an extension of theModern Warfare 2universe likeCall of Duty: WarzoneCalderawas an extension of theVanguarduniverse. This means that even thoughCall of Duty: Warzone 2.0will be a new stand-alone experience, it will match the relevantCall of Dutyjust like previous iterations of the originalWarzone.Call of Dutyfans that have been frustrated by cheaters for the launch of olderWarzoneupdates may delight in the fact that Ricochet anti-cheat is promised for day one.
Call of Duty: Warzone2.0is being teased to feature newModern Warfare 2content and systems which may be expected as a reflection of the upcoming title, but it will also offer brand-new progression and inventories. The classicWarzoneexperience will still be available for players that don’t adapt toWarzone 2.0which meansCall of Dutyplayers that don’t enjoy the changes can return to the progression and inventories included in the original client. BecauseCall of Dutytitles are often downloaded piece by piece in recent releases, it’s likely that someWarzonefans wind up with both versions on their console or PC.
The release ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2will seeCall of Dutyreturn to Steamon PC which may suggest thatWarzone 2.0will be available on the storefront when it launches shortly afterward. All the big changes coming withWarzone 2.0haven’t been revealed by Activision Blizzard, so it’s currently unclear what battle royale fans can expect from the game. Because there are a few months leading toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2coming out, Activision Blizzard may reveal .0as October gets closer.
