Just four weeks ago, the first part ofCivilization 6’sNew Frontier Pass, the Maya and Gran Colombia Pack, was released, giving players access to two new leaders, a new game mode, new Natural Wonders, and more. That said, developer Firaxis Games is far from finished with making adjustments and adding new content toCiv 6, and the company has recently detailed some more changes that will be released as free updates over the course of June 2020.
One of the central focuses of these free updates is the Diplomatic Victory condition that was added inCivilization 6’s Gathering Storm expansion, and Firaxis is looking to reduce the efficacy of some of the strategies that players have been using when pursuing this victory type. For instance, the Favor penalty associated with excess pollution is set to be increased, and a new Favor penalty that arises from owning foreign Capitals is being added. More on the changes to Diplomacy inCiv 6can be found in the video below.

Another aspect of the upcoming free game updates are a myriad of changes that are being made toCiv 6’s Religious Beliefs, and more than 12 of them will be altered. These changes are coming in the form of buffs, nerfs, and new additions, and they are intended to “provide interesting and balanced choices” as a player develops their Religion. So far, Firaxis has outlined changes to Warrior Monks (which will allow Holy Sites to Culture Bomb adjacent tiles when constructed) and the Dar-e Mehr (which will be immune to natural disaster), and again there is a bit more to be found in the video.
Furthermore, PC players will be getting access to Red Death Season 2, which will add two new factions (Zombies and Aliens) to the game mode and gives every faction its own unique abilities. The updates will also add observer mode and kick voting to Red Death, andSean Beanwill now be acting as narrator for this scenario.
To note, there are a few other changes planned for the June 2020 updates, including UI tweaks and buffs to two ofCiv 6’s Natural Wonders(Yosemite and the Eye of the Sahara), and fans can expect even more in the upcoming months. Indeed, these changes coupled with the forthcoming release of the Ethiopia Pack manes there is certainly a lot forCivilization 6players to look forward to.
Civilization 6is available for iOS, Linux, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
