The letdown that was the release of the long-awaitedCyberpunk 2077is still fresh in some people’s minds, and this infamy has managed to reach outside the gaming industry as even New York’s Museum of Failure exhibition features CD Projekt Red’s 2020 RPG. While it’s gone down as one of the most disastrous launches in recent memory, things have certainly improved for the dystopian title. Many now consider it one of thebest open-world games of the current generation, though it took some time for it to achieve such recognition.
It’s fortunate that the studio was able to turn things around eventually, but things were so bad at one point thatCyberpunk 2077had to be recalled, with many fans saying the game was almost unplayable, especially on previous gen consoles. It’s tough to come back from reputational damage like that, but CDPR was able to make amends, improving things significantly and affording it a second chance. However, it seems that initial launch and subsequent backlash is something that will likely haunt the developer for some time.

As spotted by The Gamer, Reddit user p4ul1023 has found thatCyberpunk 2077has been immortalized for all to see. An image uploaded to the site shows an exhibit describing the game, noting how it wasn’t “as spectacular as expected.” The user says they saw this in Brooklyn’s Museum of Failure, which also features a number of other cultural disappointments from the past, such as the DeLorean car fromBack to the Futureand Google’s short-lived Google Glass. The text for theCyberpunkexhibit goes on to say that the title was “full of bugs” and that “angry fans” wanted refunds. It’s also not the first video game to be featured in the museum, as p4ul1023’s photo also shows information for the doomedETadaptation released on Atari in 1982.
Luckily, it’s a different story today for CD Projekt Red. WithCyberpunk 2077receiving numerous patchesover the past two and half years, the open-world game is in a much better state than it was back in December 2020. It’s still not perfect, but it’s several leagues ahead when compared to its launch window.
On top of that, fans are now anticipatingCyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC which is due out soon, though no official release date has been shared yet. The developer also announced a follow-up in 2022, while also in the midst of developing a new saga ofThe Witcher. Many people hope that CDPR has learned a lesson and that the nextCyberpunkentry will be able to hit the ground running.
