Summary
Dead by Daylight’s Alien DLC Chapter includes a third iconic feature in addition to the legendary heroine Ellen Ripley and the Xenomorph killer from theAlienfranchise films: the Nostromo ship. It’s the infamous movie setting where fans first encounter critters like the Facehugger alongside the terrifying Xenomorph creature and Ripley, one of thesmartest horror movie protagonistsin the genre.
Game Rant recently interviewed Behaviour Interactive Creative Director Dave Richard and Game Designer onDead by DaylightJanick Neveu about the new Nostromo Wreckage map in the Alien Chapter, the horror game’s 29th DLC. Richard and Neveu also spoke more about unique features of the new map, such as the environmental steam pipes, and teased possible Easter Eggs that players may discover.

One of the standout, unique features ofDead by Daylight’s new Nostromo mapis undoubtedly its steam pipe system. Neveu explained that it was inspired by the game’s existing pallet system for Survivors as something both killers and survivors can utilize.
“…we thought, could we take this idea and morph it into something different. So that’s how the steam pipe came to be. Like a trigger effect and something the survivor can use in the need to think strategically about when to pass into it, and the killer can actually use it against a survivor if he passes inside and then the survivor cannot reach or follow.”

Although Neveu elaborated on how the steam pipes work, he added “…there’s a bit of a mystery about how it works at first. So there’s a bit of exploration, and we hope that players like to explore and discover how the steam pipe system works.”
The Nostromo map contains an interior Nostromo shipwreck where players can use the steam pipes and an exterior map area. When comparing Nostromo toDead by Daylight’s previous maps, Richard described the interior as “pretty large” and “very interesting to explore but also to learn how to navigate around it as a killer and a survivor.” Neveu also explained how the map adds a lot of “versality” for players,
“…the interior map also has its own feel to it. So in this case, it’s something that we kind of merge together where you have the Nostromo with tight corridors…allows for more stealth on the survivor side. But there’s also the exterior map where we have that interesting gameplay around loops and probably a good chance to get spotted by the killer because there are less obstacles.”
Richard teased the Nostromo map is “super rich” with references to the Alien franchise, plus “some Easter eggs and special things you can do. But it’s a surprise.” No doubt many fans who’ve tried the map already may already have foundJonesy the cat in the Nostromo, who was Ellen Ripley’s cat in the movies, something which many were speculating may make an appearance in the gameplay. There are many otherAlienEaster eggs for players to discover, including the notorious Facehugger.
The presence ofAlienEaster eggs and the Alien Chapter overall sets up an exciting premise for whatthe nextDead by Daylightkillersor characters might be. While Neveu and Richard did not reveal or confirm any future plans, it seems logical that the infamous Predator could join the Fog next, but this remains to be seen.
