Over the last week, fans ofDemon’s Soulshave been hard at work trying to solvethe mystery behind a hidden locked door added in the game’s PlayStation 5 remake. Appearing in World 1-3, the mysterious door was obscured by a fake wall, with the game’s community coming together to figure out a way to unlock it.
As of today, the door has finally been opened, with Twitch streamer and Souls speedrunner Distortion2 being the one credited with finally unlocking the mysterious entrance and gaining access to the secrets inside. The contents aren’t as earth-shattering as some predicted when the door was first found, but it stands as a solid nod to returning fans from the originalDemon’s Souls, withBluepoint Gamesproviding access to a long-requested armor set.

That set is none other than the Penetrator armor, which those who’ve playedDemon’s Soulsor its recent remake will no doubt recognize from one of the game’s bosses. Appearing in World 1-3 (similarly to the mysterious door),the Penetratoris a large, armor-clad foe with a broadsword and stands as one of the bosses players will look to take on toward the later stages of the game. WhenDemon’s Soulsoriginally hit PlayStation 3, a lot of fans loved the design of the boss' armor, wondering whether they could personally don it in the game. Now, they can, with the set being added thanks to the locked door.
As for how Distortion2 opened the mysterious door, the streamer searched around for 30 Ceramic Coins before trading the items to Sparkly the Crow. Doing so rewarded theDemon’s Soulsplayer with a key, which, when used, finally pried open World 1-3’s secret passage. The euphoric moment when the streamer finally reached the other side of the door has all been posted on Distortion2’s YouTube channel, including his reaction to the Penetrator armor set.
Although the secret door has been a big discussion point amongDemon’s Soulsfans this week, so has the game itself, which has been a massive success with both players and critics alike. It’s currently sitting at a 91 on Metacritic, making it the highest-rated release on thePlayStation 5thus far, while players celebrating overcoming troublesome enemies and commiserating debilitating losses have posted hundreds of clips on social media. It seems the game has set a high bar for the Souls-like genre on the next-generation platforms, especially with its newest mystery captivating the game’s dedicated fanbase over the last week.
