Destiny 2servers are currently down, leaving many thousands of players confused. For context, theweekly server maintenancewas expected, but the servers still being down by now is unusual. As it happens, Bungie has the answer for why the servers are still down, and also when players can expect them to go back up again.

As previously stated, Bungie does weekly server maintenance to ensure thatDestiny 2’s servers stay in the best condition possible, but that maintenance doesn’t take that long. In response to droves of questions about when the servers will reopen today, Bungie Help shared the info.

According to Bungie,Destiny 2servers are still currently undergoing maintenance, but should be up and running for everyone on all platforms by 4 PM PDT at the latest. The reason for the delay is theintroduction of update 2.9.1, which is rolling out now during the maintenance.

Players essentially have two options at this point. They can simply wait for 4 PM PDT, by which point the game should be available to play unless Bungie encounters some unforeseen mistake, or they can keep checking back periodically. Bungie Help claimed that the update is “expected to conclude at 4 PM PDT,” meaning that it’s always possible that it could wrap up earlier (or later for that matter). Patience is likely the better option here, as there’s little point in sitting around refreshing the gamewaiting for the servers to go back online.

To make matters worse, theupcoming update is supposedly 8 GB in size, meaning it will take quite a while to download, especially for those with slower internet connection speeds. Curiously, the update is not available for download yet, meaning fans may have to wait until 4 PM PDT when the maintenance finishes to start the download. Why this wasn’t communicated before the scheduled maintenance started remains a mystery and likely always will, but at least the information is straightened out now.

In its tweet, Bungie Help urges players experiencing issues to report any problems to the Help Forums, but it should be said that reporting the already known and intentional server maintenance certainly won’t make anything better and may even make things worse. Keep concerns until 4 PM rolls around, and even then it would be best to wait maybe an hour afterwards before submitting a ticket.Updates take time to roll out, and they do so at different speeds depending on the platform, so there’s no guarantee everything will happen right at 4.

Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
