Since the latest Solstice of Heroes event started inDestiny 2, players have noticed a strange glitch that has come up as they progress through unlocking the new legendary gear on multiple characters. However, it seems as though this glitch isn’t an so much a bug as it is a previously unexplained feature added to the2020 Solstice of Heroes eventas a quality of life upgrade from previous years.
The “glitch” was first noticed by players who found that the progress of unlocking Solstice gear inDestiny 2changed from one character to the next as they burned through the event’s new challenges. Looking into this issue on behalf of players, Bungie community manager dmg04 asked the developers about this and confirmed that the change in progression time forunlocking the Solstice glow armorfor a second and third character is intentional.

According to dmg04, who posted to Twitter as @A_dmg04, what players misinterpreted as a glitch is a feature put in place by the developers that makesprogress forDestiny 2’s Solstice eventmove more quickly for each additional character players work through. The feature in question doubles the progress speed to upgrade the Solstice armor for a second character and then triples the speed for a third character, making progress easier for subsequent characters. However, the update only unlocks when a player reaches the final armor level, which means that players need to fully complete the objectives on one character before moving on to the next one.
Fans commenting on dmg04’s comments have quickly gathered around the positives of this type of quality of life upgrade that rewards players who have multiple characters. Others have voiced their complaints about some of the challenges required to unlock the Majestic level of the new gear and thenew Solstice EAZ activity. However, the general reaction to this news is that Bungie is certainly taking a step in the right direction by improving progress for players who have multiple characters.
While long-timeDestiny 2fans have a main that they’ll progress through the challenges with first, most players have alt characters of the other two classes, often used for farming or just to have fun with the different abilities. So, making progress easier for those extra characters, especially during an event that only appears for a limited time, is a huge bonus for the dedicated player base. This type of feature may be something that Bungie should keep in mind when working on future events, or even in the new activities coming to theBeyond Lightexpansionin November.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
