The open world inDiablo 4still adheres to a few old conventions from pastDiablotitles, but players are hoping Blizzard breaks tradition when it comes to Town Portals and the Capitals they’re tethered to. The Regions inDiablo 4represent the currently playable world, but the Acts themselves correspond to a Region much more loosely than they did inDiablo 3orDiablo 2. Though there is a numbered path to experience themain story ofDiablo 4in its assumed order, players can progress through the first three Acts however they desire.
Once the campaign inDiablo 4is concluded, the open world transitions into being akin to an interconnected Adventure Mode fromDiablo 3, with each Region having its designated Capital. Town Portals summoned in the middle of aDiablo 4dungeontake players to a corresponding Capital, and though this certainly follows tradition, not all towns are created equal, and players find the layout of certain Capitals to be particularly annoying.

The solution presented by Targonis on theDiablo 4subreddit isn’t new by any means, but the mere fact that it’s so frequently suggested implies it’s a topicDiablofans are extremely passionate about. Given thatDiablo 4has already broken up the Acts, it would make sense if it borrowed the Hearthstone fromWorld of Warcraft, and brought its functionality to theWorld of Sanctuary. By being able to pick their preferred Capital, and bind their Town Portal to that location,Diablo 4players will be able to avoid their least favorite towns through far fewer clicks and window jumping.
Though their favorite Capital inDiablo 4varies greatly from person to person, fans have expressed adoration for Cerrigar, Ked Bardu, and Kyovashad the most, with the Whispering Tree being a worthy contender despite not being a Capital. An alternate solution would be to simply improve Capital layouts the way Adventure Mode inReaper of Soulsdid for theDiablo 3towns.
As fun as the game has been, and though it cannot be disputed that it’s in a much better place at launch compared toDiablo 3, it is ultimatelyDiablo 4’s lack of many obvious quality-of-life featuresthat prevent it from living up to its potential. While Blizzard Entertainment is hard at work in fixing these shortcomings, it is important that theDiablo 4community continues to provide constructive feedback, as their frustrations come from a place of passion and genuine love for the franchise.
Diablo 4is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
