[UPDATE 12/7/21: In a livestream, Disguised Toast attributed his move to missing the Twitch community, but also said the deal he got from Twitch was “trash.” The original story follows.]
The streamer known as Disguised Toast spiked in popularity in 2020 thanks toAmong Us, but was also one of the online personalities responsible for the game’s viral fame that occurred during the ongoing pandemic. A member of the content creation group OfflineTV, he often games withTwitchstreamers such asPokimane, Scarra, and LilyPichu—as well as Valkyrae, who has an exclusivity deal with YouTube—but up until recently, could nearly only be found on Facebook Streaming.

This is because a couple of years back in November 2019, Disguised Toast signed a contract with Facebook, and recently, he revealed why he made the move from Twitch to the platform now owned by Meta. However, this only came up becauseToast has returned to Twitchafter his contract with Facebook ended and has possibly signed a massively profitable contract with the Amazon-owned site.

Why Disguised Toast Left Twitch
Previously, Disguised Toast hadn’t revealed too many details on why he decided to leave Twitch other than the fact he didn’t regret the move to Facebook. During aninterview with The Hollywood Reporterjust after his move, though, he said it was because he “felt a little plateaued in terms of [his] growth on Twitch.” Now, however, he’s spoken on just how colossal the Facebook contract was in comparison to Twitch’s, which was “insultingly low,” according to Wang, about 30 times less.
Not only that, but when Toast’s agent attempted to negotiate for a better contract, they were told Twitch already had Faker, another Asian streamer, implying that there wasn’t a necessity for two Asian personalities with large, beneficial contracts on the platform. What theOfflineTV memberpointed out, though, is that Faker is a professionalLeague of Legendsplayer and streams very infrequently in comparison, adding insult to injury (though he’s streamed much more often recently).

Disguised Toast’s Return to Twitch
It’s not exactly clear whyDisguised Toast returned to Twitchafter his successful contract with Facebook, but one could infer that it’s because of an even better contract through the Amazon-owned streaming site that’s more proportionate to his increased worth. Because it was only earlier this year that he said he was happy with Facebook Gaming, it’s possible that he’s been offered an even better contract withTwitch. And it would make sense that the company would finally view Toast as a hot commodity after hisAmong Uspopularity. It’s also possible that there were other personal reasons why he’d want to leave Facebook, such as the site’s controversies, but it’s unlikely that a substantial amount of money didn’t play at least some role in Disguised Toast’s most recent move.
The announcement of his departure from Facebook Gaming appeared on November 17 and was followed by a video tweet captioned with “new platform,” featuring Toast eating a cake taken from a Twitch duffel bag. He went live around the same time, effectively drawing an audience into his gaming streams. Going forward, he will appear on two channels of his onTwitch, hismain channel Disguised Toastwhere he has over 2 million followers as well as one under his real name, Jeremy Wang.
