Disney Dreamlight Valleyplayers finally figured out what to do with theMysterious Golden Potato, but perhaps expectedly, this revelation has only led to more questions. As it happens, there’s an entire secret quest that requires the Golden Potato to complete, and it would be very difficult to find without at least first being pointed in the right direction. For those players that have been holding onto their Golden Potato since theMysterious Golden Potato redemption code was found, this is an opportunity to get it out of their inventory and get one step closer to solving this mystery.
For those that don’t know, back in October 2022,Disney Dreamlight Valleydevs shared a promotional image to the game’s official Discord. Within this image, players found a string of letters and numbers that turned out to actually be a redemption code that could be used to get a Mysterious Golden Potato in the game. For quite some time, there was no way to use this item, but inquisitive players have finally solved the puzzle.

Dreamlight Valley - How to Get the Golden Potato
To get the Golden Potato inDisney Dreamlight Valley, players shouldhead to Scrooge McDuck’s Store in the Plaza. Upon entering the shop, approach the safe across the entrance and pick up the Golden Potato from the ground. The Quest Item is a part ofa long Questline that involves searching for more colorful potatoesand acquiring mysterious potions. Turns out Dreamers can use these potions to unlock a new companion, the Rainbow Fox.
Originally, the Golden Potato was added in the Scar Update and could only be obtained through a redemption code inDisney Dreamlight Valley. As of The Remembering Update where the Fairy Godmother was added, the Golden Potato became available at Scrooge’s Store. Regarding players who already claimed the Golden Potato via Redemption Code,they won’t find it at Scrooge McDuck’s shop as it was already obtained.
Dreamlight Valley - Starting the Golden Potato Secret Quest
To start this secret quest, players need to head to Merlin’s house with the Golden Potato in their inventory. This is important as the quest cannot be started unless the player is holding the Golden Potato in their inventory.
Inside Merlin’s house, players will find a book with an image of a Golden Potato on top of a diamond-shaped stone. On the other page, there are four of these diamond-shaped stones (each numbered one through four). These are called Transfiguration Stones, and players must find all four.
Transfiguration Stone 1 - Dazzle Beach
For the first stone, players should warp to Dazzle Beach with their Golden Potato and enter the Dazzle Beach magical cave full of barriers players had to dispel in order togetDreamlight Valley’s Orb of Power. Head down a few stairs, and players will find the first Transfiguration Stone sitting on a table. Put the Golden Potato on the stone, and it will transform into a Golden Carrot.
Transfiguration Stone 2 - Forest of Valor
Now players need to warp to the Forest of Valor with their Golden Carrot and look forElsa’s ice cavern. Head inside here, and players should immediately see the second Transfiguration Stone on the large ice table. Placing the Golden Carrot on this stone will see it morph into a Golden Crab.
Transfiguration Stone 3 - Dream Castle
The third Transfiguration Stone is actually in the main castle, so players need to warp to the Plaza with their Golden Crab in hand and head into Dream Castle. Head all the way up the grand staircases pastall ofDreamlight Valley’s realms and unused doorsto the top floor and look over the balcony towards the exit. Sitting rather precariously on the railing on the left hand side is the third Transfiguration Stone. Using the Golden Crab here will transform it into a Golden Night Thorn.
Transfiguration Stone 4 - Merlin’s House
The fourth and final Transfiguration Stone requires players to go back to the very beginning. Go ahead and warp to the nearest fast travel point to Merlin’s House with the Golden Night Thorn and go inside. On the table next to the book, there is now a Transfiguration Stone, and players can place their Golden Night Thorn on it to receive a Gleaming Gold Potion.
Dreamlight Valley - How to Use the Gleaming Gold Potion
At present, there is no way to use the Gleaming Gold Potion, at least not that players have figured out. The mystery is still ripe for solving, and there are actually other potions that can be obtained by completing secret quests with other strangely colored potatoes.
For example, theRed Potato secret quest rewards the Raging Red Potion. For those wanting to try and solve the mystery on their own, it’s worth noting that the Gleaming Gold Potion’s item description claims it “has the power of the sun to bring warmth to something gone cold.”
