Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessdirector Sam Raimi has officially made his triumphant return to the Marvel movie universe. However, should the director end up continuing to work in the MCU afterDoctor Strange 2, he said that it won’t be alongside Tom Holland inSpider-Man 4.
It would seem to be a no-brainer thatwhen Tom Holland’sSpider-Man 4gets made, Kevin Feige would want to tap Raimi to head the project. TheEvil Deaddirector already has quite a bit of experience making Spider-Man movies. Of course, his experience came before even Andrew Garfield took on the role of Peter Parker, as Raimi and Tobey Maguire jump-startedSpider-Manmovies with the first trilogy that starred Maguire. It appears that the fact that the director worked on the original trilogy is why he won’t return to shoot another movie centered on the web-slinger.

Raimi recently talked about returning to Marvel forDoctor Strange 2with theLos Angeles Times, and the conversation eventually took a turn towards Spidey. When asked whether he wouldwork with Holland wheneverSpider-Man 4gets made, he was clear that it wasn’t going to happen. The director made it clear that his reluctance to work with Holland had nothing to do with not respecting him as an actor. Instead, Raimi said that it was about working with any other actor playing Peter Parker besides Tobey Maguire.
He joked that if he ever worked with Holland on anotherSpider-Manfilm, Maguire would break his neck. Despite the fact that Raimi is staying loyal by only working withMaguire on theirSpider-Man 4,it still doesn’t appear that it’s going to happen in the MCU. The director said that no one has contacted him about resurrecting that particular storyline, even if there was a success bringing Maguire’s Spidey intoNo Way Home.
While Raimi seems to be convinced that he’s not going to be doing any moreSpider-Manmovies with anyone besides Maguire, there’s a growing group of people who would like to see theDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessdirector team up with Holland. That includes other people who have worked in the MCU, likeMoon Knightproducer Grant Curtis. Curtis said he would love to see what Raimi and Holland could do together if they paired up to work onSpider-Man 4. It seems likely the voices calling for that are going to get louder as time goes on.
Doctor Strange 2 in the Multiverse of Madnessis now playing in theaters.
