Elden Ringis a colossal game and the Lands Between is an expansive World, there’s no doubt about that. With over 100 Bosses, 300+ Weapons, and hundreds of Sorceries/incantations, there’s a mind-boggling amount of build variety.

And, because all of these variables are at play, there are also a lot of synergies between items that many players haven’t discovered yet, such as certain Talismans and Weapons working hand-in-hand despite the item descriptions giving the opposite impression. There are a lot of oddball combinations inElden Ringthat are actually quite useful in a lot of scenarios, so let’s go over some of the most unexpected synergies players should benefit from.
8The Arrow’s Reach Talisman + Any & All Sorceries
First up is the Arrow’s Reach Talisman, which increases the effective range of bows and crossbows. Normally, this item doesn’t see a ton of useoutside of Bow-only challenge runs, but it might after this trick is more widely known.
Essentially, the Arrow’s Reach Talisman also seems to increase the effective range of some specific Spells too, such as Rock Sling and Ambush Shard (which are already amazing Spells). It hasn’t been fully tested with all the Sorceries and Incantations, but even with just these two spells, it’s a combination worth trying. Rock Sling, in particular, is an incredibly powerful spell that can be obtained pretty early on,and this just makes all the Magic Builds out there even better.

7The Spear Talisman + Any Thrust-type Attack Or Weapon
Many of the Talismans that are named after specific weapons actually have more usage outside of the weapons of their namesake, and the Spear Talisman is a good example of this. From the description, it seems like this item is only worthwhile to use for players wielding Spears or maybe even Thrusting Swords, but that’s actually not the case.
Any weapon of the “Thrust” Type or even weapons that have a specific attack that the game labels as a “Thrust” also work to apply this “Counterattack” when used during an enemy’s attack animation. Once again, this hasn’t been tested with everything quite yet, but two of the funnier examples that it works with are Bows in general and the poking Attack of the Colossal Greatswords.

6Two-Handing The Clawmark Seal + Beastial Incantations
This next example is just hilarious to imagine, as it involves a Faith-build type player running around Two-Handing their catalyst Seal in order to chuck even stronger Boulders at their enemies. Essentially, this Synergy involves the Clawmark’s Seal innate effect of Scaling with Strength and the Two-Handed mechanic that increases Strength Scaling by 50 percent when used.
So, combine these two things and players will find that their Beastial Incantations, such as Beastial Sling, Stone of Gurranq, and Beast Claw, are inflicting even more damage than they usually do. Beastial Incantations, in particular, inflict mostly physical damage, and that’s why this synergy works so perfectly.

5The Arrow’s Sting Talisman + Throwing Knives & The Jarcannon
Moving on to the other Bow-based Talisman, the Arrow’s Sting Talisman. This Talisman is simple, it just buffs the damage of all arrows and bolts. Again, it’s another item used primarily by Bow Builds. But, just like the Arrow’s Reach Talisman, this one also has some other items it unexpectedly affects.

For one, this buffs the damage of the Jarcannon, one of the funniest and most explosive weapons inElden Ring. Two, it also buffs the damage of throwing consumables such as Kukuri and Throwing Darts. While this might not seem useful at first, both regular Darts and Crystal Darts actually deal a pretty large amount of damage when a full stack of them is thrown, so this could be an easy way to take out the last 15-20 percent of a Bosses' HP without any risk.
4All The Scorpion Charms + Elemental Throwing Pots
This next one is likely the synergy that a majority of players discovered on their own, but it’s still worth mentioning. Basically, players have been using the different Scorpion Charms, such as Sacred, Magic, Fire, and Lightning, to buff whatever the primary damage of the weapon, Sorcery, Ash of War, or Incantation they’re using is.
But, how many players also knew that these Charms just buffed all types of that Elemental Damage from the Tarnished? Throwing Pots, for example, get a buff from this as well. It’s only 12 percent in exchange for taking 10 percent more damage overall, but still worth it for a Pot-Throwing Build. Plus, this also affects the damage of Elemental Arrows and Bolts,Torches (with the Fire Charm specifically), and even Crystal Darts with the Magic Charm.

3Twinblade Talisman + Colossal Weapons
Out of all the odd combinations of Talisman and weapons, the Twinblade Talisman with Colossal weapons has to be the funniest. It’s called the Twinblade Talisman as it’s modeled after the Twinblade Weapon, a weapon known for its fast combos and lots of multi-hitting Attacks. But, the “best” weapon type that works with this Talisman is actually Colossal, which are typically impractical weaponsknown for slow combos and heavy-hitting single Attacks.

This Talisman buffs the final Attack of an Attack Chain by 20 percent, and the reason that’s so great for Colossal weapons is simply that their Attack Chains are short. Most of them, if not all, only have a three-hit Combo, and because of their massive size, Staggering ability, and the Poise of players who tend to use them, it’s more likely that players will get all three hits out than with most other weapons.
2Discus of Light + Erdtree Greatshield
The Erdtree Greatshield’sinnate Weapon Skill has seen a lot of playin both gimmick builds for the main game and PvP builds in multiplayer. Previously, it was basically an infinite ammo energy cannon when paired with Fire’s Deadly Sin. The actual intended usage of this Shield is its ability to parry Spells back at the Caster. But, players found that when used with Fire’s Deadly Sin, an Incantation that has a side effect of constantly damaging the user, they could trigger this reflective ability at any time and let them unleash the Greatshield’s magical bolt at their discretion.
Sadly, this was eventually patched out by FromSoftware, but players have found another workaround with the Discus of Light and Rings of Light Incantations, as they seem to work for triggering the Parry Projectile when used on the Ring’s return. The game registers the returning ring as a “projectile” so if players activate the Weapon Skill right when it’s about to “hit” them, they can get the Erdtree Greatshield’s effect to go off whenever they want.

1Blue Dancer Charm + Bow Damage & Sorcery Damage
Last up, let’s talk a bit more about Bow Builds. When players attempt a Bow-Only Build inElden Ring, they’ll quickly find out that the individual damage of each shot is incredibly low, even with some of the Best Bows. This is where Talismans like the Arrow’s Reach and Arrow’s Sting Talismans come in.
But, how many players also knew that the Blue Dancer Charm works too? The lower a player’s Equip Load, the more this easily missable Charmbuffs their Physical Damage Scaling. And, while it seems obvious, most players don’t realize that this Physical Damage buff applies to Arrows and Bolts too. Even better, it also buffs Sorceries and Incantations that inflict Physical Damage in any way.

Elden Ringis available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
