With every day closer toElden Ring’s release, there seems to be some sort of new information for players to chew on. The latest batch of material is footage ofElden Ring’s Liurnia of the Lakes area, a brief yet dense gameplay trailer featuring combat, traversal, and beautiful scenery.

For people who have been followingElden Ringsince the beginning, it is strange seeing the current steady release of information after years of being in the dark. After its initial reveal in 2019, fans had to wait two years beforeElden Ringmade its grand reappearance at Summer Game Fest 2021. Later in 2021, a fortunate collection of theElden Ringcommunity were able to participate in a closed network test that let players loose in a small section of the Lands Between.Elden RingDirector Hidetaka Miyazaki recently opened up about the game’s development in an interview with PlayStation.

In a new video posted by Game Informer, players get a first look at a new area inElden Ring, Liurnia of the Lakes. The footage starts by showing the player walking up to a pedestal emanating with swirling blue light where they receive a prompt asking, “Travel to another location?” Quickly the player is transported to Liurnia of the Lakes where a giant gate looms in the distance, and beyond what is likely the collection of shallow lakes the remainder of the trailer takes place in. After another cut, fans get to seeElden Ring’s multilayered combat in action, with the player starting an engagement stealthily, then moving into a variety of close quarters and magic-based attacks.

With large heads and beady, fishy eyes, the rather silly-looking enemies of this area give the player a pretty solid fight. They use a combination of magic, physical attacks, and cartwheels to keep the Untarnished on their toes, being surprisingly agile despite their dopey personas.

In the next segments,Elden Ring’s open-worldand horse traversal are in focus, with the player in one part, following a ghostly trail to a new area, and in another, jumping from rooftop to rooftop while riding their steed. The trailer ends with the player entering what appears to be a crystal mine, a classic environment type found in many FromSoftware games.

With the Liurnia of the Lakes area is the suggestion that there may be more places to explore than just what is in the Lands Between. How the player reaches Liurnia of the Lakes—through the special portal-like pedestal—is awfully reminiscent of traveling to thePainted World inDark Souls. This is a location separate from the rest of the game world and is only accessible through a painting.

Players already knewElden Ringhas a big open-world, but if Liurnia of the Lakes is not a part of that physical space, thenElden Ringmay be quite larger than everyone thinks.
