It’s been quite a while since the last timeFablefans adventured through the land of Albion.Fable 3was released almost twelve years ago, andPlayground Games might not releaseFable 4for another two yearsor more. However, Lionhead Studio’s unique action RPG is far from forgotten, as oneElden Ringplayer recently demonstrated.

A few weeks ago, a player named Christina, known as Ozymandius415 on Reddit, usedElden Ring’scharacter creator to insertFable’sJack of Blades into FromSoftware’s open-world dark fantasy RPG. While she appears to have since deleted her account, it’s impressive what Christina managed to do with the tools available.

The villain of the original 2005 game, Jack of Blades, isone ofFable’smost iconic characters. The sinister figure is known for his eerie and iconic bone-white mask. Christina did her best to recreate that look inElden Ring’scharacter editor, and the result is impressive. She managed to erase the character’s nose and mouth by adjusting various sliders. While this makes his face seem a bit off up close, it resembles a solid piece from the right distance and angles. Meanwhile, dark rings around the character’s eyes give the impression of eyeholes cut into the mask. Facial tattoos simulate the marking on Jack’s mask, with amber eyes for an appropriately sinister glare.

Finally, Christina equipped her customElden Ringcharacter with a Crimson Hood and large sword to complete the ensemble. While the final product isn’t a perfect recreation, of course, it’s still impressive and very clearly meant to beFable’smost iconic villain. While it’s not clear why Christina deleted her Reddit account, her work deserves to be seen by fellowElden Ring-playingFablefans. Perhaps it might even inspire some to create their ownElden Ringinterpretations ofother popularFablecharacters.

Unfortunately, it will be some time untilFablefans get an actual newFablegame to play. Development has reportedly beenslowed by Playground Games’ lack of experience with RPGs. While some observers expectFable 4to release in 2024, neither the publisher nor the developer has given a clear timetable for release. While the lack of official updates is not necessarily concerning, it’s sure to make someFablefans anxious.

Still, it’s not likeFableisthe only action RPG franchise. While the Lands Between is a very different place from Albion, the massively popularElden Ringfills that niche. Hopefully,Fable 4will see similar success when it is finally released sometime in the next few years.

Elden Ringis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
