April 2020is one of the most unique months in gaming history. Besides the fact that two of the biggest PS1 games ever have remakes coming out next month, April also straddles the line between games actually coming out and games that might getdelayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. In any case, following the killer line-up of games that came out in March of this year (and are still coming out), the month of April has some big shoes to fill. With the aforementioned remakes and other big titles dropping in the coming weeks, next month will be big.
Resident Evil 3andFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeare both based on PS1 games that came out over two decades agol but they’re also both going after the same concept - modernizing blockbuster games of the past to bring them forward into the future (and to bank on nostalgia).

Interestingly, those games won’t be the only titles that are taking a dip into the past, with Square Enix remaking two games for the month of April (includingFF7 Remake). Although it’s only confirmed to have a spring 2020 release window,Minecraft Dungeonscould also potentially be released sometime in April. Here are all of April’s biggest games.

Resident Evil 3 - April 3
A top contender for the most anticipated game of April 2020,Resident Evil 3is due for release on April 3 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It’s part of Capcom’s continuing streak of putting out big, successful games (which really started with its return to form withResident Evil 7in 2017). Just as the originalResident Evil 3was a sequel to the originalResident Evil 2,this year’sRE 3only exists because of the massive critical and commercial success of theRE 2remake in 2019, both of which share and build off of the same revolutionary engine - the RE Engine.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake - April 10
For people looking forward to bothResident Evil 3andFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, there is only a week separating the two so it’s probably best to plan some gaming schedules ahead. While not a remake of the entire original PS1 game,FF7 Remakeis apparently going to be a fully featured, regular-length action RPG. With a demo for the game currently available on PS4, fans could at least get a sample of the game before deciding to hop back on the train heading into Midgar, which should prove useful to those initially put off by the deviation from traditional turn-based combat.
Gears Tactics - April 28
Another spin-off of theGears of Warfranchise,Gears Tacticstakes the blockbuster third-person action shooter and switches up its combat to fit the turn-based strategy genre. Boasting a campaign that lastsover 40 hours,Gears Tacticscan appeal to players ofXCOM, StarCraft,or any other popular strategy game (evenMario Rabbids Kingdom Battlefor the Switch). Ever since Microsoft’s acquisition of theGears of Warfranchise from Epic Games in 2014, it seems the people in charge don’t mind a little experimentation with it here and then, even putting outGears Popin 2019 (alongside the traditionalGears 5).

There are a bunch of other smaller games coming out in April such asMoving Out, Totally Reliable Delivery Service, andSpace Engineers. The other remake thatSquare Enix is putting out isTrials of Mana, which is a remake of the 1995 Super Famicom gameSeiken Densetsu 3(which was made by Square before its merger with Enix in 2003). Otherwise, it seems to be a fairly filled month, with over a dozen games coming out. Here is every other game releasing in April.
