Summary

Just like every year since 2005, a newCall of Dutywill be releasing at the end of 2023, and this time it’s Sledgehammer Games' turn. But rather than produce a whollyoriginalCall of Dutylike it usually does, Sledgehammer’s been tasked with creating a sequel to last year’s entry. WhileCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3might have a familiar name and some familiar faces within, it seems as though the sequel could end up shaking things up quite a bit for the franchise.

Set to release in November,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3has only released a few minutes of footage so far, and minimal information outside of its well-crafted trailer. But based on what fans have seen and heard so far, it seems as thoughModern Warfare 3won’t be a completely traditional annual entry. With a more open-ended campaign, only remasteredMW2mapsand no original 6v6 maps of its own on launch, and a cross-progression system that carries over much of the same content from the previous entry,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is going to be an unconventionalCoDentry, but according to recent leaks, it’ll at least follow tradition when it comes to weapons.

About a week or two ago, a number of well-knownCall of Dutyleakers took to Twitter to allegedly reveal a slew ofnew weapons coming toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Of course, as is the case with any video game leak, fans should take all of this speculation with a sizable grain of salt, though none of these leaked weapons seem too unlikely to appear. Of the 30+ weapons currently leaked forModern Warfare 3, there are quite a few familiar names that long-time fans will recognize and plenty of new ones for players to experiment with.

According to this list,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is bringing back a number of iconic weapons that haven’t been seen in the franchise for some time. Though many of these weapons have unrecognizable names due to licensing, they’ll hopefully look, feel, and behave in the same way as their most iconic iterations. Some weapons making a hopefully triumphant return inMW3are the G36C assault rifle, the UMP 45 SMG, and the RSASS sniper rifle, all of which haven’t been seen in the franchise since theoriginalModern Warfare 3back in 2011, or even longer.

Of course, along with these 30 leaked weapons, Activision and Sledgehammer have officially confirmed that all ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s weaponswill be carrying over toModern Warfare 3.MW2had just over 50 guns on launch, and with post-launch updates that number has only continued to grow. In theory, with bothMW2and the new weapons combined,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3could have the biggest launch arsenal in franchise history.

Even if these leaks don’t end up being true,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3will undoubtedly have an incredibly impressive selection of weapons from the jump, and that arsenal will likely only continue to grow over time. Sledgehammer has already laid out its tentative post-launch plans, and new weapons are sure to be a part of that strategy, just as they have been withModern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3launches on November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
