Super Smash Bros. Ultimatehas one of the largest rosters in any fighting game, as it is made up of many different fighters from Nintendo and other third party companies. One highly requested addition to the cast is Master Chief from Microsoft’sHaloseries. Despite fans and even former composer Martin O’Donnel wanting Chief to finish the fight in Smash, the likelihood of that happening is at an all-time low. Regardless, one fan decided to create a render of Master Chief in the same style and aesthetic ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
TheHaloseries is one of the most iconic video game franchises ever made, largely due to the innovations that it had spawned for the FPS genre. WhereverHalowas, Master Chief was not too far behind, becoming a video game icon and the face of the series. Much to the dismay of fans however, this alone isn’t enough to get him intoSmash. Still, that has not stopped fans from creating their own interpretations of what the legendary space marine would look like in the fighting game.

Mutation Korno is an artist who specializes in editing and creatingSmash Ultimaterenders for characters who aren’t in the roster, or making new renders for existing characters. Some of these include otherhighly requested characters like Crash Bandicoot. For his newest piece however, not only did he create a brand new render for Master Chief, he also showed off concepts of some potential alternative skins.
As seen in the timelapse video Korno made, special care and attention were put into making the art as accurate toSuper Smash Bros.Ultimateas possible. This includes creating a brand new dynamic pose that captures the spirit of Master Chief, as well as cross-referencing other character renders to get details similar to the ones in-game. While he did create the iconic green armor, he also made alternative skins based on the various multiplayer armors that can be selected inHalo. There was also one extra alternate skin that resembled the Doomguy, with the skin dubbed “Doom Chief” by Korn. Unfortunately, theDoom Slayer’s chances of appearing inSmash Bros.are also slim-to-none despite fan demand.
WithTekken’sKazuya Mishima being the latest additional characterforSmash Ultimate, it leaves one last spot available for the Fighter’s Pass DLC. While it’s very unlikely that Master Chief has a shot to finish the fight, it’s still fun to see an interpretation of the character in the game’s style.Halofans can also look forward to the next chapter of Master Chief’s journey, asHalo Infiniteis also set to launch this holiday season.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimateis available now for Nintendo Switch.
