TheMass Effectfranchise is well known for its vast and detailed universe. There are multiple unique alien races designed with their own cultures, a whole host of interesting technology, and a series of impressive locations for the player to explore. WhileMass Effect: Legendary Editiongives most of the environments seen in the originalMass Effecttrilogy visual updates, some fans are still looking for a complete overhaul of someMass Effectmaps to give them a next-gen feel.
YouTuber Leo Torres is looking to give the Omega station, a popular map featuring in bothMass Effect 2and3,an overhaul using Unreal Engine 5. It was announced last week that thelatest Unreal Engine would be available for all developers, and already it seems that some are putting the new engine to good use. In a 2-minute video, Torres shows the impressive update to one ofMass Effect’smost popular locations, complete with improved background elements, textures, and reflections.

Alongside Unreal Engine 5, Torres used Lumen for reflections and global illuminations, alongside using Nanite for the meshes. Unfortunately for fans though, Torres' recreation will not be available for public use. Still, that didn’t stopMass Effectfans from praising the recreation. Comments on Torres' YouTube video were impressed by how the remake captured the mood and atmosphere of the crime hub. One viewer even said that this new look would bea perfect crossover forCyberpunk 2077, while another commented that they thought it was Lorville fromStar Citizen.
Omega has often been a fan favorite location forMass Effectfans. With a distinct atmosphere, Omega provided fans with some interestingmain missions back inMass Effect 2concerning squad mates Garrus and Mordin. InMass Effect 3, the location was brought back in a DLC. After the Cerberus corporation takes over the station, Shepard and Omega’s leader Aria must team up to take it back. Both times Omega and Aria featured inMass Effectwere looked on positively by fans.
Many are hoping that in the futureMass Effecttitle that Omega will return, as it wasn’t destroyed in the Reaper War that endsMass Effect 3. Whether Omega will return ina newMass Effectgameis unknown, though, the fans who have seen Torres' remake would surely like to see a similar level of detail and graphical fidelity to that of the Unreal Engine 5 recreation of the location.
