Far Cry 6was announced last July with a reveal trailer that more so resembled a short film. While the news of a new entry into the series alone is enough to get fans excited,Far Cry 6’strailer had an air of significance and mystery about it that left fans wanting to see more.
Unfortunately for fans at the time,Far Cry 6’s release datewas pushed back from February this year to now October. But, following months of radio silence on the topic ofFar Cry 6, Ubisoft has finally given fans something to chew on with an all-new gameplay trailer, highlighting a number of the game’s features. Far Cry 6’s Animal Companions Are Adorable, Yet Brutal
Far Cry 6’sAmigosare few in number as things stand, with just the games paraplegic dachshund, Chorizo, and crocodile companion, Guapo, appearing in the trailers. This isn’t the firstFar Crygame in which the player can have animal companions; however, Chorizo and Guapo appear to have a bit more personality on show than their counterparts inFar Cry 5.
Guapo can be seen in theFar Cry 6gameplay reveal trailerleaping into action and attacking a potential threat at the whistle of the game’s protagonist, Dani. In other videos, the player can be seen feeding and petting Guapo, much to his apparent delight. Chorizo, unfortunately, receives a much smaller feature in the gameplay trailer, excitedly jumping up and down before revealing his ability to intimidate by growling and bearing his teeth.

Far Cry 6’s Car Customization Is Better Than Ever
InFar Cry 5, the player is able to customize their vehicle, changing the paint job and adding a bobblehead to the dashboard. This was a cool feature to allow the player to make their car feel like their own, but it was somewhat limited in scope, only allowing cosmetic changes to the vehicle. This, however, appears to be an area in whichFar Cry 6is set to improve upon its predecessor.
Far Cry 6’svehiclecustomization was shown off briefly in the gameplay trailer, showing a number of changes that will not only alter the appearance of vehicles but the utility as well. Vehicle mods include a roof-mounted turret, a bulldozer bumper attachment, and flames jutting from a car’s exhaust pipe, which would seem to indicate a speed boost. These mods will no doubt draw attention to the player’s status as a guerilla fighter, but the player can also use horses to make their way around the map, which could be of use for a bit more of a stealthy, covert playthrough.

Far Cry 6 Has Customizable Weapons
Thegameplay ofFar Cryhas always been one of its stronger suits, with gunplay in particular feeling weighty and rewarding. So it makes sense that Ubisoft has decided to expand upon this aspect of the game, adding unique new weapons and variants toFar Cry 6.
Gamers will be able to take downFar Cry 6’santagonistwith a wide array of unique and humorous weapon variations, as the guerilla army works its way around a lack of weapons at its disposal. The gameplay trailer featuredFallout-style makeshift weapons such as sardine can/battery launchers, a weapon that fires CDs at the enemy, and a backpack with a number of mods available.
The backpack seems as though it’s set to take a starring role inFar Cry 6, possibly acting as a vehicle through which the game can explainFar Cry’sperk system. In the gameplay trailer, a number of variations of the backpack are shown, one which fires mortars, another is a flamethrower, while a third mod seemingly makes the backpack function as a jetpack. These weapon mods look like they will make for some interesting gameplay innovations and function as some of the more outlandish elementsas the series looks to take a more realistic approach to a guerilla uprising.

Far Cry 6 Has A Huge Map
Far Cry 6’sopen-worldwas promised to be “the largestFar Cryplayground to date,” and judging from the gameplay footage on show, this seems to hold true. While going back to the series' roots with an island setting, it appears that the fictional island of Yara is varied, with plenty of different environments to keep the player entertained.
The setting ofFar Cry 6has plenty to offer, from rural villages to expansive cities, and remote swamps to dense jungle areas. The gameplay trailer showed Dani traversing through each of these locations, showing off some of the environment’s finer details. The trailer also highlighted the presence of hidden paths and camps scattered throughout the world, hinting at the vast size of the world. The sheer size of the open-world allows for a variation in landscapes that should hopefully ensure the game retains a feeling of wonderment and exploration throughout. Yara’s capital city, in particular, is unlike anything that’s ever been seen in aFar Crygame and should make for some interesting gameplay.
Far Cry 6’s Gameplay Is Deep
In contrast to previous games, theenemy ofFar Cry 6is the government of a small nation, who as such, have a lot more resources at their disposal and may react differently to how the enemy would in previousFar Crygames. In the gameplay trailer, Dani is said to be one person standing against an army, and that seems to hold true as Dani can be seen fighting tanks, helicopters, and sweet-talking their way through a government checkpoint in order to avoid detection. The storyline ofFar Cry 6seems to be something new for the franchise as it looks to put its best foot forward into the next generation of consoles.
In a departure from the shoot-first style of previousFar Crygames, it appears the player can take a bit more of a subtle approach to the game. A series first inFar Cry 6’s notoriety systemrepresents just how much the gameplay may differ from previous games. Dani can work undercover as a truck driver, bribe guards to look the other way, and holster their weapons when traveling across the map to avoid suspicion. This more stealthy approach to gameplay could prove to be vitally important for Dani, as detection could result in serious changes to how freely the player can traverse the map.
With so many new features on show, it will be exciting to see what the future of theFar Cryfranchise has in store. With the scope of the open world and the various improvements to gameplay,Far Cry 6definitely represents a huge step forward for theFar Cryfranchise.
Far Cry 6launches October 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
