Typically, the fall/holiday season is the best time for video games. This is because many publishers want to cash in on sales like Black Friday, as well as just general Christmas gift-giving.2022 thus far has had an incredible spring, but with summer approaching, the releases month after month are thinning out. Summer may be a little bare bone, but fans can likely expect it all to pick up again in the fall/Holiday season.
After all, there are several big games set for 2022 that have yet to reveal an exact release date.God of War: Ragnarok, Hogwarts Legacy, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and potentiallyFinal Fantasy 16 come to mind, with just a few games likeStarfieldhaving a confirmed release datefor the season. October is usually one of the best months of the year alongside November, in all of this, but as it stands, there are only TWO games confirmed for October 2022:ForspokenandGotham Knights.

Forspoken, Gotham Knights, and October Video Game Releases
The good thing is that neitherForspokennorGotham Knightsare likely to be delayed out of October, as they both have been delayed already. Neither are they competitors—Forspokenis an Isekai game where a young New York woman is transported to Athia and must use magic to get home, whileGotham Knightsis essentially a co-opBatmangame, where players must attempt to foil the Court of Owls’ scheme.
Even though it’s 5 months away, it’s very odd to see these as the only two games releasing this month right now. There could be some smaller indies that have gone unnoticed, but in terms of confirmations, these two are it. For comparison, October 2021 saw the releases ofFIFA 22, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, Far Cry 6, Metroid Dread, Back 4 Blood, Resident Evil 4 VR (Quest), House of Ashes,Guardians of the Galaxy, and far, far more. It was a busy month with over 50 total releases across all platforms and re-releases.

And then there were two. There’s no doubt October will fill out more as time marches on–Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2has a good chance of releasing in October—but it’s odd how little and how much the game industry pendulum can swing between. It’s certainly possible there are enough confirmations over summer to get October to 50, but given the games known to be releasing this year, the potential showcases over summer, and all of that, it still feels somewhat unlikely. At the very least,ForspokenandGotham Knightshopefully get their time to shine.
Forspokenreleases October 11 for PC and PS5.Gotham Knightsreleases October 25 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
