Less than 24 hours after launching on Steam, the early access version ofHades 2has already doubled the all-time peak concurrent player account set by the originalHades. While Supergiant Games certainly found success with its earlier titles likeBastion,Pyre, andTransistor, the studio really took off after it released the roguelike action title,Hades. AlthoughHadeswas originally an Epic Games store exclusive, it eventually launched on Steam a year later in 2019 through Early access, releasing Version 1.0 on September 17, before eventually launching across most other platforms like the Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.
Following its release,Hadesquickly went on to receive universal acclaim from players and critics alike, earning countless awards and becoming a massive hit for Supergiant Games. However, many began to wonder what was next for the studio, who had established a firm track record of not developing sequels and instead changing genres for new games. As it turns out, Supergiant revealed it is breaking with tradition during the Game Awards 2022 by announcingHades 2, a sequel to its hit game. The excitement from fans was made clear upon its release into Early Access, as a new milestone has already been broken.
Following a very successful Technical Test period,Supergiant Games launchedHades 2into Steam Early Accesson May 6 to the delight of many. While the first game certainly found its own success,Hades 2has already crushed its all-time peak player count in a matter of hours. According toSteamDB, the stats tracking website for Steam games,Hades 2instantly hit the trending games list after its launch, reaching a peak concurrent player count of 79,276 after only 9 hours of being available. In fact,Hades 2has since gone on to topple that number, breaching 84,000 players early on May 7 and is likely to keep pushing that number forward.

WhileHadeswas available on many platforms, the sequel has already reached impressive heights solely on Steam. The original game managed a peak player count of 37,749 on Steam, hitting that all-time number a year afterHadeslaunched out of early access with its full release. Either way,Hades 2has more than doubled that milestone in mere hours, even though it is technically not complete.
As expected, the launch ofHades 2onto Steam is just the beginning of the journey. Supergiant is planning on releasing numerous updates throughout the year and has promised that, in addition to continue expanding the story, more characters will be added, mechanics tweaked, and other gameplay related changes will arrive. While players continue to debate whether toplayHades 2in Early Access or wait, Supergiant is aiming to have the full version 1.0 experience ready to go by the end of the year, bringing the story to a close along with other finishing touches marking a full game experience.
