Even those who don’t play horror games must admit that there is something intriguing in a sort of thrill-seeking way about the genre. Those who embrace it get some kind of kick out of being scared or paranoid, even after they stop playing.Horror games don’t have to rely on jump scaresin order to frighten players, and the likes of SadQuare Studios’Visagewas proof of that. When it was released for PC, PS4 and Xbox One last October, it became something of a cult hit. Such was its success that the game will be coming to new-gen systems as an Enhanced Edition.
Although it’s largely beencompared to the sorely missedP.T.from 2014,Visagehas been celebrated as a truly magnificent horror title in its own right. It may have strikingly similar visuals to the Kojima/del Toro demo, but it being a fully fleshed out experience has caused fans and critics to see the inherent, and terrifying, value in the developer’s first game. As a result, an Enhanced Edition was recently announced and will be coming to haunt the PS5, as well as Xbox Series X and Series S. It is worth noting that the game was released on Xbox Series on October 28, though not as an enhanced version.

SadSquare recently uploaded a trailer to its YouTube channel, with some details about what can be expected in the upcoming new version of theunsettling indie horror game. The short video says the Enhanced Edition ofVisagewill have 4K visuals and 60fps. Each console’s port will also have haptic feedback, presumably for that extra dose of immersive terror. On top of that, the trailer promises improved loading times, something which some gamers playing the current versions noticed was a bit of an issue at times. Currently, there is no release date, just that the Enhanced Edition will be “coming soon.”
Recently,Visagewas added to Xbox Game Pass, so more people have been able to get inside the psychologically horrifying game. It makes sense that it would be added to Game Pass, given that this is the time of the year when horror games, and games with horror features, are all the rage.
Although it does have its fan base, it’s generally something of a hidden gem, and is perhaps evenan underrated horror game. In this modern gaming era, right now is as good a time as any to jump into some horror titles, especially the indie ones. The industry is in something of a golden era of the genre, and the likes ofVisageshow that, while the more pixelated affairs are still tremendous, there is something to be said for a photorealistic game that can induce true fear.
Visageis out now on PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S (though not the Enhanced Edition yet)
