Ever since the launch of Obsidian’sThe Outer Worldsback in 2019 (not be to be confused withOuter Wilds), many fans have been clamoring for a sequel to the first-person role-playing game from the makers ofFallout: New Vegas. Fans will be happy to know that a sequel toThe Outer Worldswas revealed during the joint Xbox and Bethesda E3 2021 presentation, but it’s not coming to as many platforms as the first one.

The Outer Worlds 2didn’t get many details shared during its reveal trailer, but Microsoft confirmed that the RPG would not be coming to PlayStation or the Nintendo Switch, two platforms that the first game came to.

The Outer Worlds 2 is Not Coming to PS4, PS5, or Switch

Now thatObsidian is owned by Microsoftand falls under the Xbox Game Studio umbrella, the RPG has been confirmed for a release on Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S. Since the developers are working exclusively with Xbox, there will be no other platform releases, at least for now.The Outer Worldsdidn’t get a release date or window, for that matter, but the team has shared that the game will indeed feature a brand-new crew and a new star system for the players to explore.

As for when the game will be coming to other platforms, there’s little chance forThe Outer Worlds 2to head to other platforms that aren’t under the Microsoft umbrella. The company has been grabbing other studios in recent years to bolster the first-party support on Xbox further, and it only makes sense forThe Outer Worlds 2to be an exclusive title. Launching the game on Switch or PS4/PS5 would be great for gamers worldwide, but, like PlayStation, Microsoft wants to make sure that the Xbox ecosystem has high-quality games of its own.

Since launching back in 2019,The Outer Worldshas received not one but two pieces of downloadable content for players to sink their teeth into.Peril of Gorgonlaunched in September 2020, and the DLC titled ‘Murder on Eridanos’ was released in March earlier this year. IfThe Outer Worlds 2is anything like its predecessor, there should be plenty of DLC for fans to get into after launch.

The Outer Worlds 2is in development for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
