The latestJackassmovie has some of the crew’s wildest, most gruesome and painful stunts ever put on film. Yet, even these daredevils have their own limits, at least according to a recent interview withJackass Foreverstars Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O.
Despite their inelegant rise to fame, Knoxville owes their origins to the now-defunct skateboarding magazine Big Brother, from where the former andJackassdirector Jeff Tremaine recruited then professional clown Steve-O. Since the early 2000s, the pair have gone on to take part in some very costly stunts, not necessarily due to their complex logistics but totheJackasscast’s expensive medical bills.

That legacy might suggestanything is fair game for Knoxvilleand Steve-O, but both men recently told NME that their biggest fears are somewhat different from what most people would expect. Knoxville said, “The guys do have irrational fears.” As an example of this, he said Steve-O might be willing to pierce his mouth with a fishing hook, but they couldn’t get him to bungee jump under any terms whatsoever, with Steve-O simply giving a “F**k you dude I’m not doing it” type of answer.
The rather mysterious part is that Steve-O has already gone for things like jumping out of a plane or doing jump flips off bridges, but somehow bungee cords are where he seems to draw the line. In Knoxville’s case, his biggest caveat comes from dealing with cold weather. That said, he admitted that he’s mostly retired from doing big dangerous stunts nowadays, leaving the more threatening parts ofJackass Forevertowards the end of filming.
Those same medical issues that have been piling up for years are the exact reason whyJackass Foreverwill most likely be the final movie for the franchise, given the gang’s aging bodies can hardly take any more punishment than what they’ve already been through. Knoxville’s most recent mishap came from suffering a brain hemorrhage while filming theJackassswan song, with doctors warning him he’s had 16 concussions during an illustrious career that encompasses some of themost painful scenes in theJackassmovies saga.
It’s clear the market wantsmore of the fine product that isJackassbecause the latest installment has collected over $72.2 million in box office earnings since premiering in early February, thus turning some healthy profits from its $10 million budget. While Bam Margera may be absent, theJackassformula is going out in style.
