While expectations were high for thePlayStation Showcase, it still managed to shock many fans the world over when it opened with theKnights of the Old Republic Remake. It didn’t show much but theRemakelogo, Aspyr’s name, and a rendering of Revan, but it set theStar Warsfandom ablaze.

Now that it’s confirmed, it’s more of a question of when it’ll show more for fans. Since it was only a teaser and no release window was given, fans likely are still in for quite a wait, but many would agree that a proper, well-doneKnights of the Old Republic Remakeis worth waiting for. The only catch is that it’s a timed PS5 console exclusive, so unless players have a PC or PS5, it’ll likely be another six months or a year before it can be played on Xbox—and that’s odd.

The Original KOTOR, KOTOR 2 vs. KOTOR Remake

It’s odd because, whileStar Warsgamesare typically multi-platform due to their popularity nowadays,KOTORnever has been.KOTORwas originally released for Xbox on July 16, 2025, coming to PC later that year in November. Aspyr would letter port it to Mac OS X, iOS, and Android, with the game being playable via backward compatibility on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

KOTOR 2is in the same boat—it first released for Xbox in 2004, for PC in early 2005, and Aspyr handled ports in 2015. However, none of Aspyr’s ports or the base game themselves ever touched a PlayStation console. So, in a way,KOTORhas gone full circle with its remake, as the original games can only be played on PC, Xbox, or other ports, while theKOTOR Remake will only be on PC and PS5 at launch.

How that exactly happened is anyone’s guess, but it means that theKOTOR Remakewill be bringing it full circle. It’ll be the first time the game appeared on PlayStation consoles, and it’ll eventually launch on Xbox too. Perhaps, at the time, Xbox could swing aGame Pass deal, but it remains to be seen.

Overall, with the EA exclusivity contract ending soon, the reestablishment of Lucasfilm Games, and this exclusive but eventually multiplatformannouncement ofKOTOR Remake, the future ofStar Warsgames look good. Toss in other titles likeLEGO Star Wars, Jedi: Fallen Order 2, and more, and the future may come sooner than most think.
