Konami has officially announced a new competitive tournament series forYu-Gi-Oh! Master Dueldubbed the “Challenger Cup,” set to begin next month. The newest online simulator for Konami’s massively popular trading card game debuted to major success with its surprise launch earlier this year. ThenewYu-Gi-Oh!game quickly broke records on Steamand would see millions of downloads across multiple platforms. Now, with Konami previously stating they intend forMaster Duelto serve as a competitive platform, the developer has revealed the game’s first official tournament series.The newest announcement would not be the first time Konami has made steps towards promotingYu-Gi-Oh!Master Duelas a competitive platform for the card game created by Kazuki Takahashi.Master Duelwas originally marketed as a top-level platform for the game that will feature alongside games likeDuel Linksand the physical trading card game at major events. Konami has also taken steps towards promoting high-level competition in-game with its Duelist Cup event earlier this year. The Challenger Cup is set to begin on December 17th and run through mid-February with 85 “free-to-enter online tournaments” planned. The tournament series currently believed to be exclusive to Europe with the game’s EU branch putting on the event. Konami did not reveal any details about how theMaster Dueltournament serieswill be structured or whether the Challenger Cup will be extended to other regions.

Prizes will reportedly range fromMaster Duelmemorabilia like hoodies and card sleeves to higher-end rewards likeNintendo Switch OLEDand PS5 consoles. The tournament will also feature plushies based onYu-Gi-Oh’s “Rescue Rabbit” as a prize, with the plushies being a popular giveaway item from Konami during events and conventions.

The first official tournament series forYu-Gi-Oh! Master Duelcomes as the game has added plenty of new content over the first ten months following its launch.Master Duelhas introduced several new ways for players to experience the game between the Casual Match queue earlier this year and therecently-added Team Battle game mode. Konami has also regularly added new cards into the game, as well as more solo modes based on the game’s many different archetypes. TheMaster DuelChallenger Cup will be an opportunity for Europe’s bestMaster Duelplayers to show their skills.
