League of Legendshas grown from a single, successful MOBA into a broader cross-media universe. Yet even asLeague of Legendsspins off multiple games, TV shows, and more, Riot continues to robustly support the original game with new content. The latest addition toLeague of Legendshas just been revealed. Introducing the new champion, Bel’Veth, a Void beast shaped like a manta ray who will fit into theLeague of Legendsjungle role.
Bel’Veth was revealed recently with a cinematic trailer. In the trailer,Kai’Sa, who ventured into the heart of the Void in previous trailers, encounters a strange woman. The woman says she’s “everything the Void has consumed,” and further, that she plans to devour the world. Suffice to say, Kai’Sa doesn’t have a good first impression and attacks Bel’Veth. Bel’Veth fights back, and after constraining Kai’Sa transforms from what appeared to be a robed woman into giant manta ray-shaped Void beast.

Subsequent lore details released by Riot confirms thatBel’Vethis indeed a harbinger of the Void’s hunger, but also so much more. She was born after the Void devoured a city and gained consciousness through the joined lives of those the Void ate. Instead of aligning with the Void Watchers, the progenitors of modern Voidborn, Bel’Veth seeks to consume the world for her own purposes. She calls this world of her own creation the Lavender Sea.
While Bel’Veth’s abilities have yet to be confirmed, several gameplay clips have been shown of her in action. To start, Riot has referred to Bel’Veth as a humanoid/monster amalgamation, but all her gameplay shown so far has shown her in her “manta ray form.” In this form, she auto attacks in melee range with her “wings.” Her abilities then look like a short dash that can build multiple uses, a flurry of frontal attacks, a frontal line AOE, and an Ultimate that transports Bel’Veth a short distance and does damage akin toGalio. There’s also a passive proc, but its utility isn’t clear.
Something funny about Bel’Veth is that a manta ray-shapedLeague of Legendschampion has been teased as far back as 8 years ago. Teasers were included in the splash art for BattlecastVel’Koz, as well as graphics used for Battlecast Viktor.
TheLeague of Legendscommunityis already growing familiar with Bel’Veth, jokingly referring to her as the “Slappy Fish” instead of her official title of the Empress of the Void. Bel’Veth’s mobility also makes her an attractive jungler for high-level competition. A release date for Bel’Veth has yet to be confirmed, but expect news in the relatively near future.
