There are some excellent battles throughout Peter Jackson’sThe Lord Of The Ringstrilogy, but one of the absolute best has to be the closing battle ofThe Fellowship Of The Ring, the Battle at Amon Hen. With incredible fight choreography, plenty of tense moments, and even some very real scary moments, this battle became an instant classic among fans of the series for all the right reasons. There is debate about if this battle or the entire skirmish in Moria is the better action sequence, but that’s not a bad thing considering both are excellent.
Closing out the first part of a three-part epic was never going to be an easy feat, but most people seem to agree Amon Hen was a great choice. The way the fellowship all head out on their own paths is executed to perfection, and of course, there’s even a heart-wrenching moment that’s sure to bring tears to the eyes of the toughestThe Lord Of The Ringsfans.

Before The Battle At Amon Hen
After some lengthy travel, the fellowship takes a moment to determine what the next best course of action ison their treacherous journey. Taking refuge in the forest, the group knows that they’re never truly safe from the threat of Sauron’s forces, but things take a turn for the worse once they realize that both Frodo and the already questionably ring-corrupted Boromir are missing.
The presence ofthe ring proved to be too much for Boromir, even if he wasn’t the one carrying it, and confronted Frodo. Whether thinking on his furry feet or just out of fear, Frodo would put the ring on in order to flee from the wild Boromir. Aragorn would eventually find Frodo up at the Seat Of Seeing, understanding what Frodo must do, and expressing his admiration for his small friend. It was then that Sting, Frodo’s blade, began to glow announcing the presence of Orcs, thus beginning the Battle at Amon Hen.

Aragorn’s Fight To Boromir
Upon recognizing that the forests were now swarming with Orcs, Boromir began to blow the Horn of Gondor to signal the others to the threat. Buying time for Frodo to escape, Aragorn launched himself at a wave of Orcs but was soon joined in the battle by Gimli and Legolas. The three warriors took on the seemingly endless hordes to protect the Hobbits, but they soon began to make their way towardthe sound of the Horn of Gondor, where Boromir was surely facing off against waves of Orcs on his own.
While Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas were all incredible warriors in their own right, the only way they managed to inch closer to Boromir was by relying on one another for aid. Occupied with the sea of horrific Orcs, the three weren’t able to think about the likes of Sam, Merry, and Pippin even if two of those Hobbits would soon become the focus of their journey. With many near-death experiences in their battle with the Orcs, Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas would soon come across Boromir, though they would all be far too late.

The Capture Of Merry And Pippin
WhileAragorn held back the hordes of Orcs, Frodo had begun to make his way back to the boats in order to set out on his own. During that rush, he’d bump into Merry and Pippin who were hiding amongst the trees to avoid the single-minded Orcs. The two Hobbits came to the realization that Frodo intended to leave the group to set off on his own, so they did what any good friends would do, step out into the middle of all the danger to buy Frodo more time to make his escape.
While Merry and Pippin were not of the same caliber of warrior as someone like Aragorn, the two were brave in facing the Orc horde. Luckily, Boromir was nearby and was able to protect the two. Cutting Orcs apart, signaling the others with the Horn of Gondor, and managing to keep both Merry and Pippin safe were the focus of Boromir. That would all prove to be too much once the mighty Uruk-Hai Lurtz stepped into the conflict and had his forces claim the Hobbits.

The Death Of Boromir
Refusing to let anyone harm the hobbits while he still drew breath, Boromir stood alone against the Orc hordes. Lurtz came upon Boromir with a bow in hand and began to loose arrows in his direction. Despite hitting him with two arrows, Boromir continued to stand and fight in order to protect Merry and Pippin, but a third arrow would prove to be too much for him to continue. Still not dead but unable to get to his feet, Boromir would be powerless to protect Merry and Pippin as they were snatched up by the forces of evil.
With the forest clearing becoming quiet, Lurtz would finally reachthe downed but still alive Boromirand ready his bow one final time. Luckily, Aragorn would finally arrive to stop the Uruk-Hai in a tense battle to the death, but it ultimately wouldn’t matter. Boromir’s injuries were too much, and after a brief conversation between brothers in arms, Boromir would succumb to his wounds. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli would give Boromir a proper send-off upon his death before turning their eyes to the tracks of the Orcs.

After The Battle At Amon Hen
By the close of the Battle at Amon Hen, the fellowship had been broken apart. Sam had caught up with Frodo and the two were now the only ones tasked with taking The One Ring to Mordor. Merry and Pippin had been taken by the Orc forces and were now on their way to Isengard in order to have a proper meeting with the vile wizard Saruman. That left Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli with no other option thanto give chase to the Orcsin order to ensure the survival of their small friends.
With the three stories all now on their own paths, that is whereThe Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ringends. The explosive finish to the first part of the trilogy had fans begging for more, and luckily, the next two movies would deliver on the monumental expectations that fans of the series had.
