Who is the Caretaker in Marvel Comics?
The Caretaker hasappeared multiple times in Marvel Comics, but just like every comic book character, there are many different interpretations. The version inMarvel’s Midnight Sunsis actually not the first Caretaker in the comics, but the granddaughter of the original Caretaker. The game uses Sara as its version of the Caretaker, and she made her first appearance inGhost Rider Vol. 6 #26.
Sara was raised by the Sisters of the Holy Sepulcher, but would venture out when she was older to discover her family history. She would end up meeting her grandfather Caretaker, and he would pass on the role to her as hesuccumbed to wounds inflicted by the vampire Blackout. Her role as Caretaker would make her the librarian and guardian of everything regarding the Spirits of Vengeance and would change her life forever.

In the comics, Sara has the power of creating portals to other realms and serves as a living portal to Heaven itself. She also containsimmense knowledge regarding the Ghost Riderand is a master of martial arts and sword fighting. She can send people through her portals, and she can be used to send people to Heaven. While she has not appeared much, she is still a major part of the Ghost Rider mythos and that is something that she seems to carry over toMarvel’s Midnight Suns, among other things.
The Caretaker’s Role in Marvel’s Midnight Suns
The Caretaker takes a leadership role inMarvel’s Midnight Suns, and a lot of her story remains shrouded in mystery. She runs the Abbey and is responsible forbringing the core Midnight Suns together, although she does not trust many of them. She is known for her cold personality and inability to trust, and it seems like she constantly pushes the other heroes away. Many of them feel like she keeps way too many secrets, and she will often bicker with everyone around her.
InMarvel’s Midnight Suns, she is the sister of the main antagonist Lilith and the aunt of the player character Hunter. She is depicted as an elderly woman who has been fighting this battle for a long time now and will stop at nothing to win the day, She is even willing to kill those that were once considered allies like Bruce Banner and Wanda Maximoff. Underneath the surface, there is an interesting backstory that hints ata past romantic relationship with Agatha Harkness, a connection with Johnny Blaze, and immense trauma that has shaped her into the person she is.
The exact powers that the Caretaker has inMarvel’s Midnight Sunsare unknown as players are not able to bring her into battle with them. She will utilize various magical abilities throughout the story, but she does not really explain just what her abilities are. It is likely that she shares a powerset with her comic book counterpart, but that is pure speculation.
While the Caretaker may not bethe most well-known Marvel character, she is an interesting addition toMarvel’s Midnight Sunsand acts as a nice foil to the other heroes. Players will get to know her a lot better as they fight against the forces of Lilith, and some may even grow to really like her. If she is popular enough then this may just be the start of her journey through other Marvel projects, and she could be here to stay.
