Sony Pictures has released the first trailer forMorbius, the upcoming superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics character andSpider-Manvillain of the same name. The trailer has been making quite a bit of buzz since it was first released, with much talk about Michael Keaton’s involvement in the movie and a connection to the critically-acclaimedSpider-ManPS4 game from Insomniac Games.
At one point in the trailer, we see Jared Leto’s Michael Morbius walking through an alley in an orange jumpsuit. There’s a brick wall in the background that’s covered in graffiti, showing Spider-Man’s image with the word “MURDERER” spray-painted across it. This seems to be a direct reference to the end ofSpider-Man: Far From Home, and potentially teases at deeperMarvel Cinematic Universeconnections inMorbiusthan there was inVenom. However, the image of Spider-Man used for the graffiti doesn’t appear to be from the MCU, but rather the PS4Spider-Manvideo game.

With Sony releasing theMorbiusmovie and having published theSpider-ManPS4 game, it’s not all that strange that the decision was made to use an image of Spider-Man from the game. However, it’s unlikely that this will lead to an actual story connection between theMorbiusmovieand theSpider-Manvideo game, but such a possibility hasn’t exactly been ruled out either.
Maybe this is a sign that theSpider-ManPS4 game will be getting someMorbiusDLC. It seems like releasingMorbiusDLC for theSpider-ManPS4 game would be a good way for Sony to not only make some more cash off the 2018 hit, but also to promote the upcoming movie. However, substantial DLC hasn’t been released forSpider-Manon PS4 for quite some time, so that may be expecting a bit too much.
PlayStation owners wanting moreSpider-Manvideo game content will likely have to wait until the inevitableSpider-Man 2game from Insomniac. That game has yet to be officially announced, but theSpider-ManPS4 ending certainly set up a sequel or two. And with Insomniac Games now owned by Sony, it seems like a no-brainer for the studio to work on bringingSpider-Man 2to the PS5.
More information onSpider-Man’s video game futuremay not come for quite some time, but fans can expect more details on theMorbiusmovie to come to light in the months leading up to its summer release.
