Summary

Generally speaking,Mortal Kombat 1’s base roster was pretty great. While the controversy surrounding the inclusion of Kameo fighters is still ongoing, and there are a handful of legacy characters that some fans are adamant should have been on the roster instead of others,Mortal Kombat 1’s base game rosterhas a nice mix of classic franchise staples, some lesser-known characters, and a good few 3D-era throwback fighters finally getting their time to shine.

ButMortal Kombat 1’s roster is set to get a whole lot bigger and better over the course of the next year.Mortal Kombat 1’s first Kombat Packis slowly rolling out from now until Summer 2024, with a new fighter launching every few months or so, complete with their own unique moveset, animations, and all the other features fans have come to expect from aMortal KombatDLC character drop. And, if the first DLC character is anything to go by, then DC’s Peacemaker could end up being one of the most overpowered fighters in the game when he eventually launches in Winter 2023/2024.

Mortal Kombat 1’s Peacemaker Could End Up Being Overpowered

While he may not have the superhuman abilities of Omni-Man or Homelander, Peacemaker’s potential moveset might make him an absolute menace inMortal Kombat 1’s online scene. When it comes to his in-game fighting style, it seems likely thatMortal Kombat 1’s Peacemakerwill be a ranged character, heavily relying on weapons like his hand cannon to even the odds againstMortal Kombat 1’s otherworldly opponents. NetherRealm has a bit of a history with gun-focused fighters, with both Deathstroke inInjusticeand Deadshot inInjustice 2being pretty overpowered due to their ability to just spam ranged attacks across the arena. If Peacemaker follows suit, then he could easily be one ofMortal Kombat 1’s scariest characters to face off against.

Another big part of Peacemaker’s persona in bothThe Suicide Squadand thePeacemakershowis his array of helmets, each one coming with its own special ability. This seems like another easy pull for Peacemaker’s moveset inMortal Kombat 1, having the potential to be another source of irritation for his in-game opponents. One of Peacemaker’s most memorable helmets is his sonic boom one, and it’s an item that could have multiple uses in a game likeMortal Kombat 1, such as emitting an anti-air blast that juggles players or an on-ground blast that staggers opponents for a few seconds.

Even if Peacemaker isn’t given his sonic boom helmet as part of his standard moveset inMortal Kombat 1, it’s almost guaranteed to show up in the game in some form, with the most likely contender being a Fatal Blow or Fatality. A Fatal Blow involving the sonic boom helmet could see Peacemaker emit a blast that shatters a slew of bones in the opponent’s body, and a Fatality would likely be modeled after a particularly memorable sequence in thePeacemakershow where the titular anti-hero blows apart a woman as she leaps toward him.

Mortal Kombat 1 Has Just Set a Precedent for Overpowered Guest Characters

Mortal Kombat 1’s roster had a bit of a balancing issue at launch, and while various nerfs and buffs have been rolled out since, the meta hasn’t really changed. Smoke, Raiden, Scorpion, and Kung Lao are all stillMortal Kombat 1’s most powerful fighters, though a new contender has just entered the ring. The first DLC character added,Invincible’sOmni-Manhas quickly become one of the most overpowered fighters inMortal Kombat 1, with a built-in Viltrumite Stance that can automatically dodge an entire combo string if meter-burned. Whether NetherRealm meant to or not, Omni-Man has now set the precedent for overpowered DLC characters inMortal Kombat 1, and Peacemaker could easily follow suit.
