Summary
A new ghost shell inDestiny 2is causing visual errors that are blinding players with its brightly-colored glow, leading to a mix of complaints and amusement from fans online. The IX Shell was recently added to the Eververse, the in-game shop inDestiny 2,for purchase using the premium currency Glimmer, and despite its Exotic status, it has caused a stir online.
Cosmetics are a key part ofDestiny 2, as many players spend a lot of time and money on in-game items to deck out their Guardian in their favorite gear andeven recreate characters from other franchises like Slenderman. The ghost is a critical part of a player’s gear set as well since it helps with fast travel and reviving, but it also doubles as an accessory with its own variety of customizable skins and shaders that can reflect the player’s own aesthetic.

The same is true for the new IX Shell, as its unique design has made it fairly popular among players, but as a Reddit user pointed out in the DestinyFashion subreddit, it comes with a blindingly bright light emitting from it. They expressed mild amusement at the shell’s strange quirk, which seems to be an unintended effect of a specific shader called Dyed Finality that they used to change the color of theirDestiny 2companion.
Shader for the New Destiny 2 Ghost Acts Like a Flashbang
Comments on the original post were full of fans making jokes about the shader’s bright light and how it would affect their Guardian’s visibility, while others jokingly mentioned how it might work as a makeshift flashbang grenade in PvP. Others compared it tothe Gambit Jadestone shader, which had a similar lighting effect when it first appeared as a dropped item in the Lightfall expansion ofDestiny 2.
Currently, there has yet to be any official word from Bungie on a potential fix for the issue, but in the meantime, players are poking fun at the bug and even helping others recreate it. Supposedly, the lighting effect also happens using the Gambit Chrome shader, which players can earn fromthe Gambit PvP mode inDestiny 2as a rare item drop.
Cosmetics have been the subject of issues and even controversy in the past within the game’s community, such as the recent addition ofshaders that are themed after the various Guardian subclasses inDestiny 2. While Bungie works on a potential adjustment to the lighting effect on the IX shell, however, there is still time for players to see it for themselves, as the ghost is still available in the game’s Eververse store.
