Publisher Annapurna Interactive is known for distributing artsy indie games to the masses, giving fans a glimpse at some of its future titles at a recent showcase event. During theAnnapurna Interactive showcase, the publisher revealed a brand-new dinosaur survival-horror game that’s in active development,The Lost Wild.
The Lost Wildwas originally announced nearly a year ago by developer Great Ape Games, but now it’s been confirmed thatAnnapurna Interactiveis handling publishing duties. A new cinematic trailer dropped forThe Lost Wildthat gives fans an idea of what to expect from the gameplay. Assuming the cinematic is reflective ofThe Lost Wild’s gameplay, it seems as though players will be exploring a lush jungle environment crawling with dangerous dinosaurs. The game uses a first-person perspective, with the player character referring to a compass as they make their way through the jungle.

Eventually, they end up at some kind of abandoned facility that they loot, discovering some flares.The Lost Wildplayer character then decides to make a run for it, pushing a big button on a door to escape the area, but this attracts the attention of some kind of dinosaurs that appear to beJurassic Park-style raptors. The player character lights a flare as the dinosaurs close in on them, but it’s unclear what the point of this will be as the footage then cuts off. It’s possible that the flares will be used to distract the dinosaurs by throwing them elsewhere, but it’s also possible they serve some other purpose that has yet to be revealed.
Those interested inThe Lost Wildshould note that, as of right now, it’s only confirmed for a PC release on Steam, and it’s not expected to drop until some point in 2024. However, one has to imagine that if there’s enough demand that the game would eventually make its way to consoles as well. After all, there’s currently a huge void ofdinosaur horror gamesavailable on modern consoles, soThe Lost Wildhas a prime opportunity to fill that niche.
There haven’t been many attempts at dinosaur horror games over the years, with most games featuring dinosaurs falling squarely into the action category likeCapcom’s upcomingExoprimalgame, for instance. The premiere dinosaur survival-horror game franchise,Dino Crisis, has been dormant for years, and it doesn’t look as though Capcom is going to move forward with a new game in that series any time soon.
Rumors have persisted of aDino Crisisremake, but nothing official has been announced, and some reports indicate plans for such a game have already been scrapped. But while dinosaur horror fans may not have a newDino Crisisto look forward to, they can at least check outThe Lost Wildin the meantime.
