Marvel Studios hasn’t gotten enough credit for always finding ways to promote their material in spite of the short time span, regardless of whether they’re promoting their next film or series. They’ve done just that with their upcoming series set to debut this summer on Disney Plus,Ms. Marvel.
Marvel Studios' released its newestMs. MarvelTV spot over the weekend. This new spot may have only been 30 seconds long, but it included some new material from the upcoming show, including thefantasy footage of Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, which adds to the coming-of-age tone this show appears to be going for.

This newMs. Marvelspot didn’t reveal much about the plot, which is honestly the best way to go when promoting material like this. However, the preview does seem to be going for a “be careful what you wish for” tone, as the main character Kamala seems to realize that while having superpowers can be cool, it comes with a lot of responsibility. At the same time, when asked how it feels to have superpowers, Kamala summarizes it in one word: Cosmic.
Unlike other Marvel heroes that we’ve been watching since 2008, this story will be told from the perspective of a teenager who, unlike say Spider-Man, chooses to get superpowers instead of having them thrust upon her because having them will allow her to live out her fantasy. In so doing, she may be in over her head because of these newfound powers, which would teach the lesson that heroism does not come from the powers you have, but from how you use them. That would be a great lesson to teach young adults these days, especially in the social media era.
This is an intriguing project Marvel Studios has on its hands because of its relatability in the premise alone. Anyone who has taken a liking to superheroes growing up has more likely than not fantasized about being one both because of how fun it would be to have powers and the admiration you’d get for being a hero. However, those who have probably done that don’t consider the ramifications of having superpowers.Ms. Marvelmay be a real-life applicationof what would happen if you were given superpowers, which opens up so many possibilities for stories.
At this point, it’s imperative that Marvel Studios tries to add more and more variety to their properties. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has revolutionized both superhero media and how Hollywood approaches blockbusters in general, they’ve also pushed their competitors to step up their games too, which is why we’re getting suchwell-received shows likeThe BoysandInvincible, because of how fresh the material is. If Marvel Studios wants to stay ahead of the game, they can’t rely on cookie-cutter installments anymore. Hopefully,Ms. Marvelwill bring a sense of originality to their universe. At this point, it’s a necessity for them.
Ms. Marvelwill begin streaming on Disney Plus on June 8th, 2022.
