When talking to someone aboutThe Elder Scrollsseries, chances areSkyrimwill be the first one to come to mind before they think ofOblivionorMorrowind. It’s understandable, really, given that the latest Bethesda fantasy epic has been at the forefront of the gaming world for more than ten years at this point. However,Oblivionis still one of the best games in theElder Scrollsseries, coming just behind the subsequent entry, and as a result, still has a large following. So large, in fact, that some people are still making new content for it.

Uploading the file yesterday, a group of modders calling themselves PoH Team have created a new standalone add-on forOblivioncalled “Prism of Hammerfell,” which, presumably, is what the team name stands for. As the name suggests, it’s a mod that seemingly takes place in Hammerfell, which is the one of the western regions of Tamriel, where the franchise takes place. Players are tasked with becoming a “symbol for the Redguards” and puzzling through the “mystery of the Dwemer Prism.”

At the moment, the add-on is still in alpha stage, but the description page does say that the region is “quite detailed.” However, it should be pointed out that PoH Team has made the decision to get the 1.9 GB file uploaded in its “current state,” adding that the language is in Russian. This suggests there was some urgency in getting the add-on out there, perhaps related tothe ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Whether Nexus Mods will remove it remains to be seen. At the time of writing, “Prism of Hammerfell” should still be available to download.

In terms of what else is happening with the 16-year-old game, there’s also the whereabouts of theSkyblivionmod which released some new screenshots recently. Unlike what PoH has been working on, which is still mightily impressive given how much content is present,Skybliviontakes the originalObliviongame from 2006 and recreates it entirely in theSkyrimengine. Currently, there is no news about a possible release date for this just yet.

Given the popularity of the main game, it’s not surprising that there are so many mods forOblivionout there. What’s also interesting about this latest one isHammerfell has the potential to be the setting forElder Scrolls 6. While this is obviously just speculation, it would be interesting to see what Bethesda would do with the Redguard region.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivionis available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
