As more details aboutOverwatch 2Season 3 emerge, Activision Blizzard confirms that the Antarctic Peninsula map will allow players to “fish.” Though fishing has been included in many games over the years, including Activision Blizzard’sWorld of Warcraft,Overwatchhas neglected the feature until the launch of Season 3 inOverwatch 2.Among the teases forOverwatch 2Season 3hinted at by Activision Blizzard is a video showing that there are parts of the Antarctic Peninsula map in which players can do a unique form of fishing. The Antarctic Peninsula is the second map being introduced to theOverwatch 2lineup since the game launched, with the first one having an Escort mission on Shambali Monastery. Like the introduction of the Season 2 Escort map, Antarctic Peninsula may boost player numbers as some lapsed fans return to see the latest location in the rotation.RELATED:Overwatch 2 Video Shows Antarctic Peninsula Map PenguinsTheOverwatchTwitter account recently shared a clip of Soldier 76 on the Antarctic Peninsula map being introduced with the Season 3 update on February 7. With some text edited into the video saying “and if you’d rather be fishing,'” the Soldier 76 starts shooting a hole in the antarctic ice which causes a fish to leap out of it and begin flopping on the nearby ice before disappearing suddenly. Soldier 76 is able to shoot a few fish out of the ice hole, but things really get chaotic when the pre-release gameplay switches to Tracer, anOverwatch 2herowith extreme rapid-fire to her guns.
Upon switching toOverwatch 2’s Tracer, the gunfire is able to draw what looks like hundreds of fish out of the hole in the Antarctic Peninsula ice sheet as the hero unloads both clips into the water. Based on the footage of bothOverwatch 2heroes, the fish jumping out of the water are likely linked to the number of bullets fired into the hole, yielding one creature per shot.EachOverwatch 2characterhas their own unique attacks that may produce different results from this Antarctic Peninsula fishing hole which could cause even funnier responses from the aquatic life.
Because theOverwatch 2clip appears to take place in a spawn room, it’s unlikely that fishing at this particular spot will inhibit gameplay if players keep their fishing to the setup phase. Given that the video only showed one fishing hole inOverwatch 2’s Antarctic Peninsula, it’s currently unclear just how many spots will allow players to practice their aim in such a unique way.
Overwatch 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
