No one goes into a beta expecting the game to work perfectly, and the beta for Blizzard’sOverwatch 2has its share of issues. So far, these have included texture bugs and vulnerabilities that opened the door forhackers using aimbots and other cheats inOverwatch 2.
However, the latest bug is a bit more severe, letting players crash the game using Wrecking Ball’s Grappling Claw ability. This problem proved severe enough thatOverwatch 2developers temporarily disabled the character.

Wrecking Ball is one ofOverwatch’smore amusing characters, being a small hamster piloting a large spherical mech. The character has remained mostly the same from the first game, rolling across the battlefield and knocking enemies aside. However, on May 2nd,Overwatch 2players discovered a strange and game-breaking bug with Wrecking Ball’s Grappling Claw ability. By firing the Claw straight down, Wrecking Ball players can instantly boot everyone else from the match.
The glitch does not end the match or shut down the lobby. However, it crashes every other player’s game and completely removes them from the server. This glitch forcesOverwatch 2to repopulate the game with nine new players. However, the Wrecking Ball player who triggered the glitch is completely unaffected. This leaves them free to complete objectives without opposition. Making it even worse, players can trigger this bug as often as they want, clearing rivals from the map as soon as they connect. So, by spammingWrecking Ball’s bugged ability, cheaters can glitch their way to a one-sided victory.
This glitch occurs on everymap inOverwatch 2, and it’s not clear what causes it. Developers are working on the problem and have disabled Wrecking Ball until the team can implement a solution. Still, it is definitely one of the strangest bugs encountered so far, and it is hard to imagine how an apparent physics glitch could crash everyone’s game except for the player who instigated it. Hopefully, Blizzard’s developers will resolve the problem before too long.
As stated above, this isn’t the only glitch players have encountered in theOverwatch 2beta. For example, some players recently found a way into theunfinished PvE version of King’s Row. Meanwhile, a recent texture bug caused characters to spawn without their hair. The effect of this ranged from Sombra looking like she has a buzz cut, Sojourn going completely bald, and characters like Torbjorn and Brigitte losing parts of their heads.
However, those bugs were both relatively harmless. There’s no way to access the unused part of King’s Row during a match, and characters losing their hair is at worst a mild annoyance. On the other hand, the Wrecking Ball glitch is much more destructive to players’ enjoyment.
Overwatch 2is in development for PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
