Knowing where and when to use an ultimate inOverwatch 2can make the difference between victory or disaster, and one Sigma player got to learn this lesson the hard way after an opposing Soldier 76 player was able to use Sigma’s ultimate to their advantage. It reflects how, even with strong teamwork, a match can quickly swing in momentum from one team to the other regardless if it is a casual or competitive match. The Sigma player’s ultimate, though, was even more devastating since it appears to have been the proverbial last gasp of their team during aPush match.
The ultimates available to employ inOverwatch 2are just as colorful and varied as the roster of heroes using the abilities to help swing matches in their team’s favor. Several of the ultimates can be devastating on their own when timed correctly, whether it be Junkrat’s explosive rip-tire or Cassidy’s deadeye. However, a well-timed ultimate combo can be the type of play to put one team’s stamp on a match or get a losing team right back into the fight in a matter of seconds.

The play in question, which was shared on Reddit by user LunarCatUSA and can be viewedhere, unintentionally fell into the former category despite the player’s effort to try and hold back the opposing team with Sigma’s ultimate. Lunar’s clip shows them droppingSigma’s Graviton Fluxas the opposing team has nearly won a Push match, throwing some of the opposing team into the air. However, the opposing team’s Soldier 76 uses their ultimate in response and is able to wipe out the Sigma’s entire team, clearing the way for Soldier 76’s allies,
Several users responded to the clip by sharing similar stories of disastrous plays they either witnessed or were responsible for while playingOverwatchorOverwatch 2. A recurring incident among these stories is an unintentional combo where the user or one of their teammates attempts an ultimate, and an opposing player is able to use one of their character’s abilities to turn it on its head. One of the most common instances seen in the game is called out in the title to Lunar’s clip, which typically sees a Mei use their ice wall to try and block an opposingCassidy’s deadeyeonly to lift the Cassidy to a better sightline.
Lunar’s clip, along with the subsequent posts from other users, highlight how much of a regular occurrence these plays are inOverwatch. They are the types of plays where, no matter how good a player might be, they cannot seem to avoid when they happen as most seem to come down to a combination of luck and timing. That said, it would not be surprising to see Lunar be a little gun-shy in using their Graviton Flux the next time aSoldier 76is standing opposite Lunar’s team.
